Rafael Nadal expresses surprise at Schumacher’s accident, wishes speedy recovery

Rafael Nadal expressed shock at Michael Schumacher‘s skiing accident and current critical condition.

The seven-times world champion, who retired from F1 last year for a second time, has been left “fighting for his life” after a skiing accident in the French Alps resort of Meribel on Sunday. The German is currently in an induced coma having undergone surgery for severe head injuries.

“It is impossible to think of it, follow the news about his condition, because his victories are part of our life,” Rafa said in Doha, where this morning he will play his first tournament of the 2014 season. Our champion said that he only met the German driver on one occasion. “It was a gala or a similar event in Madrid a few years ago then had the chance to talk five minutes, it was very nice.”

Beyond that encounter, Rafa also admitted to being a follower of Schumacher. He said that the Qatari capital television news continually updates the status of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion.
