Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic serve up a fond goodbye to David Nalbandian

A relaxed David Nalbandian lost in straight sets to World No. 1 Rafael Nadal in an exhibition match on Saturday. This was the second (and last) match between David and Rafa in Argentina. The native of Cordoba lost 6-3, 6-4 in a match lasting one hour and 31 minutes. David officially retired from tennis after a long career that saw many matches between the two. The day was an emotional one for all who attended. Rafa and David hugged long at the net in the end. Novak Djokovic showed up as a doctor to “examine” David, all in good fun.

The next match was a single-set doubles, with team Rafa/Novak against team David/Juan Monaco. Unfortunately for us, that match was not aired.  Team Rafa defeated team David, 6-4. The best point of the match was played, however, when Rafa jumped the net and abandoned Novak to make it a 3 against 1 game. Novak still ended up winning the point, and a leg rub from Rafa as well.

Farewell, David. We will miss you.

  4. It’s so great of Rafa and Joko bringing in the crowds to boost tennis in South America. We will miss Nalbandian, besides being a very good tennis player, you could expect the unexpected i.e. broken racquets, broken chairs and all and all that jazz.
