Rafael Nadal receives his Year End No.1 trophy in London

Handsomely suited Rafael Nadal received his Year End No.1 trophy on November 9 in London, before the scheduled Round Robin match between Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro. Rafa cinched the top ranking after his second RR win at the ATP World Tour Finals over Stanislas Wawrinka earlier this week. The season is just a couple of days away from being over, but this day is emotional in that it reminds us that this time just 12 months ago, we missed Rafa deeply and weren’t sure how long it would take him to return to top form. Rafa has come a long way.

The trophy commemorates a dream comeback year for Rafa, who showed us all that indeed, doing his best and never giving up are part of his forte. As fans, we were happy to see him simply return to the tour; what he accomplished has been an enormous gift, the proverbial icing on the cake. Simply, thank you, Rafa. We couldn’t be prouder of you.

Fellow Rafans, please feel free to comment below and share with the rest of us how you feel. Let’s wish Rafa the best in the semifinals. No matter what, though, 2013 will always be a special year for us – the year of the return of King Rafa.

    • what I find consistently with him is his humility. He did not trash Federer nor does he ever demean his opponents on or off the courts. Very refreshing and he is a magnificent player. He always gives his opponents praise, thanks the fans, organizers, ball kids. He is a true sportsman and GENTLEMAN. Have watched and favoured him sinc his first French Open Win. Margot

      • I agree with you. He is so humble and very considerate of his opponents. Not boasting of his wins and his position as No.1 in the rankings. Vamos Rafa. God bless!
