Rafael Nadal will once again join up with the national team, his first call up under captain, Alex Corretja, to play in the Davis Cup play-off against the Ukraine scheduled for 13th – 15th September at the Manzanares Park Tennis Centre, where Spain will play to maintain its place in the competition’s World Group.

Spain’s national coach travelled to New York last Thursday to check on the availability of Spain’s number 1, who confirmed that he is available even if he makes the US Open final, which will take place only four days before the play-off against the Ukraine.

The Majorcan is especially thrilled at the prospect of playing in Madrid, due to the possibility that the Spanish capital may have already been named the host city for the 2020 Olympic Games. He faces five weeks of continuous competition, having only had a break between the final of the Cincinnati Masters 1,000 and the start of the US Open.

Corretja is thrilled that Nadal will play a part in such a crucial tie for the national team. Spain has not played in the second division since 1996.
