Djokovic, Gasol, and Tennis Community React to Nadal’s Remarkable Comeback

In his comeback singles match after almost a year, Rafael Nadal secured a victory over Dominic Thiem in an all-Grand Slam champion face-off in Brisbane on Tuesday night, winning 7-5, 6-1 in the first round of the Australian Open lead-up event. This marked Rafa’s 1,069th tour-level win, placing him in standalone fourth place on the Open Era’s list of most career wins for men, surpassing Ivan Lendl.

Notable voices, including Novak Djokovic, Feliciano Lopez, Boris Becker, and various tennis tournaments, expressed their reactions to Rafa’s comeback on Twitter—check out some of those tweets below.

  1. You made a remarkable come back Rafael,Great achievement on the court, welcome back,,,Rafael give them all you got you can do it,Your a champion one in a millio,,,I can’t stand the falseness in Djokovic never did never will,,Love you Rafael,

  2. Well I’m no fan of Djokovic, but I do think it was nice of him to welcome Rafa back to the tour. I do think that Djokovic respects Rafa as an opponent and enjoys playing against him. And Paul Gasol is a Spanish basketball player who is a long-time friend of Rafa.

I’m so excited that Rafa is back and playing well. I wish I would watch the matches but my local TV doesn’t carry it. But I look forward to watching him in the Australian Open and the upcoming season. Tennis is definitely better when it includes RAFA!!!!

    • I’m sounding like a TennisTV salesman here. It ain’t that expensive and it covers 250s, 500s, masters and majors. Plus really quite an extensive back catalogue.

      12 nicker a month or 100 nicker a year.

      • Thanks, my TSN (Canada) tennis coverage is actually pretty good (all the Grand Slams, majors and some of the 500 level competition) , I just don’t want to pay the extra for more coverage, especially as we recently decided to end our Disney and Amazon packages. But thanks for the tip.

      • Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh, but what of the back catalogue? I was really surprised how extensive it was.

        Still need
2006 Roland Garros QF – Nadal vs Djokovic
2007 Wimbledon SF – Nadal vs Djokovic

Not completely and utterly extensive but pretty extensive

    • I managed to snag…

2007 Rome QF Novak Djokovic vs Rafael Nadal on TennisTV

Which I had never seen before. Not amazing video quality. As long as you can see the ball though, that’s the main thing. Rafa with the long hair, takes me back.

I downloaded that using my special internet powers. No streaming. Downloaded then watched offline.

    • I agree with Carmel 100%

This forum can be a bit weird, the way that replies to a comment aren’t directly below the comment. Never mind. I’ll just use the person’s name who has commented.

Said I’d never slag Djokovic off again, doesn’t mean that I can’t like comments from people who dislike him.

  3. I have absolutely no idea who Gasol is, had the headline been “Gasol, and Tennis Community React to Nadal’s Remarkable Comeback”, with no Djokobitch comment, I’d be well up for reading it.

The biggest tennis rivalry ever is, to my knowledge, Navratilova Evert, H2H 43-37 in Navratilova’s favour.

Next biggest is certainly Nadal Djokovic (didn’t slag off his name, I can be civil, on occasion)

I can see why RNF would bring on posts that included Djokovic, considering the rivalry between them.

It’s my own personal opinion that Djokovic is not a nice man. Went in to the why of it, several times. I don’t like him, I never will.

This is for the sake of the RNF community and my own sanity. I will never again say anything whatsoever about PRovic, Dopeovic, Djokobitch. Never. That’s it, done.

If Rafa beats him, I’ll pour love upon Rafa (that sounds kinda wrong). Djoker has become an obsessive hate figure in my life, unfortunately. I’ll keep my opinions to myself from now on.
When a Djokovic super fan starts trying to wind up true Rafanites, I won’t lie, that’s gonna be hard to ignore, especially when his vile fans bring mental health in to the debate. It shall be ignored.

    That’s it.

    Cheers

  4. No one on this site really likes Djokovic so there really is no need to continually bash the guy. It’s unpleasant and distracting from our appreciation of Rafa.

    • I do understand where you’re coming from.

If it was a match being played between the two of them, fair enough, start a post about that.

I just cannot abide reading Dopeovic’s PR please like me, please, please bullshit.

      Makes me feel physically Ill.

  5. Nothing and no one can diminish Rafa’s spectacular comeback. In a sport full of bravado, Rafa
has the presence of mind to acknowledge Domi’s injuries and struggles! He has given us the best gift-living by example👏💪🙏Unforgettable, Rafa❤️‍🔥enjoy every moment🥰

    • Yes, yes, yes. So well said.

Every Rafa match will be watched live from now on, unless it’s against….him.

Had to use catchup for the Thiem match, very fuzzy brain, weird sleeping. Tis the season though. The jolliest thing is the return. Absolutely amazing.

Every moment on court is a wonderful fantastic gift. Which all Rafanites should worship and cherish.

Rafa is just, something else entirely when it comes to the respect he has for an opponent. It’s all from his enormously huge heart. Unlike, another person.

  6. Not reading this. I’ll absolutely and utterly see red as soon as I read dopeovic’s PR lies.

It’s a time to rejoice, not read a load of lies and rubbish meant to endear Djokobitch with the tennis watching community.

    Go to hell, Dopeovic.

      • Was originally gonna reply with, PRovic (thanks 1310), is a total joke!

He’s not though, jokes are funny. Dopeovic is just sad and tragic.
