Nadal, 37, is a legend of the sport and his swansong season is guaranteed to be an emotional – and hopefully successful – last lap around the tennis globe.

His most-recent competitive hit-out was a shock second-round defeat at the 2023 Australian Open to American Mackenzie McDonald, during which he struggled mightily to move after hurting his hip flexor.

Reflecting on her idol she said, “I admit that my only inspiration for most of my career was Rafa Nadal. He is a person who has not changed despite his successes. He still remains humble, with his values, with a lot of sense of humor. Apart from what he did on the court, that’s the kind of person I’ve always seen in him, so I’m glad that when I got to know him, in a sense, I could confirm it.”

A year later, the Swiss has been asked about his rivalry and relationship with Djokovic and Nadal, “I was really happy and fortunate to be playing against them almost 40 to 50 times each.

“So I have a lot of memories from a lot of great matches, battles. I’ve answered questions about them so so many times and I can only say the best things about them.”

“It’s been great to share the court with them for so many years and I hope that Rafa can come back very strong next year,” said Federer. “And I hope that Novak can keep on playing as long as he wants because it’s just really good for the game to have these guys still in the game.”

  1. Sensible timing. Between Acapulco and Indian Wells. If Rafa even decides to do those two. Hope so.

As for TMZ. I googled that. I had kind of heard about it. Never watched it. Yeah, I can see this place shifting towards gossip and lifestyles of the rich and famous type thing. Really targeting a teen plus a bit older readership.

T’is but a sign of the times. Rich and/or famous people metaphorically sucking Rafa off is newsworthy, apparently.

I know, I know. Cranky, jaded, bitter. Don’t care though. Pop culture can lick my bum.

  2. This site has become so commercial and TMZ like it’s ridiculous. Used to be interesting, now the topics are void of much of anything.
I love ❤️ Rafa and cannot wait to see him on a court again, with much hope that he will be able to sustain the challenge.
