- Rafael Nadal could play for Spain at the Davis Cup even if he is not fully fit, says David Ferrer | Eurosport
Nadal told reporters at the time he will rest for an unspecified period of time before potentially returning at the end of the year for the Davis Cup.
Spain’s Group C campaign gets underway on September 12 as they battle Serbia, Czech Republic and South Korea for a place in the final eight who face off in November.
Ferrer suggests Nadal could make it into his squad this year.
“Possibly yes, for all that he can transmit,” he told Eurosport.
“Nadal even without being 100% is a very special player, who transmits a lot and who is so good on court.
“You can trust him for his ability to suffer and in his tennis.”
- Rafael Nadal’s 14 Roland Garros titles are harder than Novak Djokovic’s 23 Grand Slams: Ilie Nastase | sportskeeda.com
“I don’t think it’s a fight, I don’t think it’s a personal fight between him and Nadal. I don’t see this thing. That’s what happened, right?,” Nastase told Gazeta Sportuilor.
“It could have been the other way around, it could have been Nadal with 23. They’re both there, close to each other. Does it matter now that he took an extra one?” he added.
“It matters to Djokovic, but I don’t think Nadal is jealous of that. Someone else should be jealous of him, that he won Roland Garros 14 times. Those 14 are harder than Djokovic’s 23,” Nastase claimed.
“Just so you know, to win on clay 14 times at Roland Garros?! I don’t think another player is born who can do this job,” the 76-year-old Romanian added.
- Swiatek Delivers Keynote Speech At Rafa Nadal Academy Graduation | ATP Tour
“For the last few weeks, I’ve been looking at one quote at Roland Garros in Paris,” Swiatek said. “On Court Philippe-Chatrier it’s written, ‘The victory belongs to the most tenacious’.”
Nadal also spoke and had kind remarks for Swiatek, “Honestly, for us it’s a huge privilege to have you here today. I know that everybody here at the Academy, the students especially, appreciate your efforts, that after winning Roland Garros you are here inspiring all the kids.”
Swiatek stated that Nadal’s example has impacted her version of “tenacity,” sharing that the Spaniard has been a constant reminder of how persevering and never giving up can make a difference in life.
“I often have the feeling that sometimes when I’m playing or when I’m doing things off court, that I should do them better or I should seek perfection,” Swiatek said. “But this shouldn’t be the sense. We should all focus on the process and giving 100 percent, no matter what you can give, because every day is different.”

Social media related to Rafa:

No Rafa. Please don’t play in any match until you are completely healed and fit in every way. What Ferrer said was silly.
Wishing you all the very best! 🍀🍀🍀❤️
NO!
A hard “No” from me…Ridiculous question… IMO if Rafa’s not 100% he should not play Davis Cup or any other match …Rafa will need to slowly and meticulously rehab his body…So why would he play if he’s not 100%… He cannot risk getting injured again… So…No ..is my answer…
We all have tremendous respect for Rafa’s talent throughout the years … for the joy he has brought each and every one of us, for the wonderful person he is on and off the court…Therefore it is difficult to read Marijnt’s negative comments and not react…Many of the comments are untrue and hold no weight….Snakes in the grass like this, feed off the pushback they get…So they do it again and again, and again hoping for more pushback.. I’ve decided when I see this person’s name I will no longer read their comment. I’ll just go to the next comment on the page as if they don’t exist. I don’t value their comment so why read it…. I think it’s a good way of handling this, no? 😉
Rafa looked great at the Academy for graduation. He’s keeping himself busy and that’s the most important thing!
Rafa…Rest, Recover, Rehab…
We love you!!! ❤️
Marileena: Marijnt has never been a true blue Rafa fan…. I pay no attention to him…he’s been on this site for years why I don’t know because he never has anything positive to say about our beloved Rafa. Also Young Voter they both should find another site to haunt! It’s ok though as Rafa has plenty of love here to cast out all their negativity. I feel the same as you and think that Rafa should heal all the way before returning! I’ve been watching tennis a little bit and really like Casper but of course no one will ever take the place of Rafa. I was so hoping that Carlos could knock out Novak but he started cramping and it didn’t happen… I kind of figured that Casper didn’t have the goods just yet to get Novak. Anyway I miss Rafa so much but I guess it’s preparing us for the inevitable. I watch a lot of oldie but goodies … if you ever get a chance watch Rome final 2005 with Rafa’s and Coria… it is this match that got me hooked on Rafa… I can watch it over and over again just like Wimbledon 2008 with Roger and Rafa… those were such magical times and I don’t think they’ll ever be repeated! We were lucky to be Rafa fans…He gave his all & there was no player that could match the excitement Rafa brought to the court! I do wish Rafa & Mery would show more photos of baby Rafa… there’s some of him with Rafa in Australia but have never been able to find anymore than those. He is adorable just like his papa! I haven’t posted for awhile but always enjoy reading y’all’s!
Marijnt Has been on here for years, trolling the place?!
This is why I have zero Social Media presence.
Years!!!! Sad, very very sad. Seek help.
Hi Ziggy….
Always good to hear from you!
I like Casper too but I find no one on the circuit has the impact that Rafa has,,, Rafa leaves you with wanting more….Every match is filled with excitement and you just can’t wait to root him on again…I think it will be a long time before another player like Rafa or Roger comes along, so without Rafa on tour, for me the tour seems a bit dull… I’ll check out the Rome 2005 match.. Sounds great…As far as seeing pictures of the baby…Don’t expect to see anything soon…Many celebrities and sports figures do not allow pictures of their children to be taken by the paparazzi especially at this very early age. It’s a security risk…and in this case I think the paps are very respectful of Rafa and Meri’s privacy as they should be,
I’m looking forward to Wimbledon… Hoping for an upset!
I believe you have to play Davis cup to qualify for Olympics .Rafa Will do the right thing for himself now I think .Some players are very fortunate not to suffer with injuries, as Djokovic is .Roger too , for a lot of his career . The fact that Rafa has achieved all he has despite having a congenital foot disorder which also makes him prone to other injuries is absolutely amazing .I can’t even imagine how difficult it is to constantly rehabilitating. He is amazing and we all want for him to have a time when he can enjoy his tennis and retire on his own terms and he absolutely deserves that
I checked and no Rafa doesn’t need to compete in Davis Cup to quality for the Olympics. The International Tennis Federation has two places that are reserved for Olympic or Grand Slam singles champions who didn’t qualify through other criteria, provided they are in the singles top 400 (which Rafa would be) and don’t make the country Spain exceed their maximum quota, which is four players. So I have no doubt that the ITF and Spain will allow Rafa to play in the Olympics if he is healthy!! I hope it happens as I know Rafa would love to play the Olympics on clay in Paris!!
Thanks for the clarification, Tennis Girl.
Thanks for that – I’ve seen a few articles saying that Rafa wouldn’t be able to play in the 2024 Olympics if he hadn’t played in the 2022 or 2023 Davis Cups, which would be sad.
I also would agree that NO he shouldn’t play. He has contributed enough to Davis Cup in his career, I would only like to see him participate if he’s feeling 100% – otherwise he should focus on returning in 2024. Marijnt – you are TOO SILLY to warrant a response. No matter what Novak does in his career, he will never be Rafa’s equal!! In my mind, both Rafa and Roger will be heads and shoulder above Novak in fan’s minds, for not only their skill and accomplishments, but because they are classy, professional and have made tennis better!!!
I am very sorry but everything i said is true. Nadal was never a challenge for novak besides on clay. On hardcourt hé has not beaten novak since us open 2013. On grass since 2008 en indoor since 2010. Nadal never won miami, sjanghai en paris indoor and atp finals. So hé was not good on the surfaces besides clay. So i didnt understand why hé was considered the goat maybe due to his 14 trophies in paris. The goat conversation should have been between federer and djokovic. Nadal is the goat on clay. Most of the 28 victories from Nadal against nole were on clay.
Remind me again how many Olympic Golds Djokobitch has?
Also Rafa won Madrid indoors which was changed to Shanghai.
Djokobitch is the absolute worse role model that could possibly exist, he’s just a horrible aggressive individual and a disgrace to the sport.
You’re a fool. Is there no mods who can get rid of this parasite?
Actually you’re wrong (not surprising). The two men have faced each other 59 times, more than any other player. Out of these 59 matches, 27 were played on had courts, 28 on clay and 4 on grass. Djokovic leads their head-to-head 30 wins to 29. But Nadal has won the most of their 18 Grand Slam meetings. He has triumphed 11 times, losing seven times.
Rafa has won on all surfaces, including 2 Australian Opens, 2 Wimbledon and 4 US Opens. He has also won the Olympic Gold for singles and doubles, which Djokovic has never been able to do.
A typical comment from someone who cares to ignore Rafa’s great achievements on all surfaces. Go away and do your research properly! If you have nothing encouraging to say about Rafa, then STFU !!
Marijnt you are an extremely unpleasant and not very intelligent person.
Djokovic himself has said on countless occasions that Rafa is his greatest rival.During Roland Garros he said this again and also said Rafa was always going to be his greatest rival regardless of the future.
Goran has said similar things.
A pity you don’t even respect what Djokovic and Goran say.
You are a troll.
Marijnt, consider this: Djokovic leads the overall head-to-head 30-29 in overall matches, but Nadal has an 11-7 lead in grand slam matches against his rival.
The duo have faced each other 18 times at a grand slam: three times at Wimbledon, three times at the US Open, twice at the Australian Open and ten times at the French Open. Nadal has an 11-7 lead in grand slam matches against his rival.
23-22 is a drubbing – really?
I think Rafa has had a wonderful career. My heroe. I have never been a fan of anybody in my long life. I would hate to see him struggle in pain and lose against lesser players. I know he wants to say goodbye with a tennis racket in his hand, BUT His body should be allowed now to say NO THANK YOU , We will luv him for ever.
I am sorry that Marijnt chose to post here. We do believe in free speech, but there are so many other places for her/him. Novak is a great player, but I would not switch from being a Rafan in a million years. Yes, Novak has 23 GSs and may well have another one at Wimbledon. But Novak’s behavior on and off the court are often classless. I think Rafa should only play when he is totally ready. I don’t know the rules about qualifying for the ‘24 Olympics and if that is a factor.
Marijnt…Should take a look at Rafa’s trophy room at his Academy… it’s mind boggling! Just the 14 Roland Garros trophies alone is historical and has never been achieved by anyone except for Rafa. Two Gold medal which I think Novak only has one. No one can be compared to Rafa he is unique…one of a kind! Novak will most likely end up with more trophies but along with them he should display all of the rackets he has smashed! When Novak has a meltdown he loses all control… let’s not forget the last Olympics where he had a tantrum for the whole world to see. I had to turn off the TV it was that bad! Honestly I don’t think anyone who behaves like that should even be considered the GOAT. The greatest of all time should include sportsmanship and in that department Rafa excels like no other! Rafa fans are fiercely protective and know Rafa’s credentials…So the Marijnt’s should think before they speak!
Djokobitch has one bronze medal, in 2008 Shanghai. He’s a really sore loser. When he was beaten to the bronze at Tokyo he pulled out of a bronze medal possibility in doubles.
Citing heat exhaustion… or something. I totally believe you. Pft.
Sorry it was Beijing 2008.
Woops.
Firstly. Sorry for the constant spamming. Bad me. Bad, bad!
Just wanted to say that I’m going to watch that Tokyo Bronze medal match now I’ve read about his childish tantrums. I, without exception, never watch him unless it’s a loss against Murray, Roger or Rafa. Just can’t stand the site of him but I’ll make this one exception for Busta Rhymes. Really not good history against Busta Rhymes, the line judge “only” had a bruised throat though.
Just watching it to laugh at the clown taking petulant hissy fits.
He’s the very definition of an anti-role model.
I know it’s embarrassing to watch him. I always wonder what kind of husband and father he is with a temper that vicious! Hopefully for his Family it’s left on the courts! Djokobitch (🤣😂) is a terrible role model for children in any sport!
Ok. There’s no reply button for your reply which begins, “I know it’s embarrassing to watch”. There was, which I replied to but my reply has ended up right at the top, as a new comment and not a reply.
This worth point thing can be a bit fiddly at times. Please don’t ban me:D
Take all the time you need.
No
Djokovic has close the big three era and started big one era. Not my words but the words of connors. Djokovic is finally getting the credits hé deserves. Also john lioyd is crediting novak for his honesty about chasing history. And lets face it. Nadal body has let him down. And hé was not a big challenge for nole on grass indoor and hardcourt. I have a feeling that the media will move on from nadal and will ignore him. Nadal and murray are irrelevant now
You like that cheating, plague carrier, who doesn’t care about giving anyone the virus?
The only reason Djokobitch hasn’t taken the vaccine is because it would interfere with his blood doping.
Bore off!
Why are you on this site? You are not a Rafa fan. Talking this way on a Rafa fan site when he is out for a long time with injury shows your character in a very negative light.
What do you mean in that way. Im right on everything nadal was never a challenge for novak
There’s no reply thing at the bottom of the plague carrying, cheating, aggressive, racket smashing, line judge attacking lover person, marijnt. So I have to reply here about the alleged “no completion”.
There’s a one match win difference in their H2H. Yeah, no competition.
I totally believe you.
Despite the H2H being a difference of 1 match.
Yeah, no completion.
Absolutely not ! I wish the constant buzzing of this type of thinking would stop already.
It was made very clear that Rafa’s rehab would be at least 5 months, and that’s not written in stone. I see this nonsensical question/ topic a reflection of the fact that Rafa lost his number standings and the media loves to jump on that.
For me I do not care about those stats, and apparently neither does Rafa.
How about letting this marvelous athlete heal and leave this type of conversation out of mind? It’s ridiculous.
Yikes! You’re not wrong though.
Definetly not…why ruin his chances for the start of 2024? I wish hope and pray for his 100% fitness, to take on RG USO and win them with various masters in between
Rafa is 29 matches unbeaten in davis cup dont put that on the line. You are not fit be wise
It would be unwise for Rafa to play if he were not 100% ready. He has endured many challenges and will know when the time is right. Lucky students to have Iga come to
speak-she is an ideal role model👏💪👍🎾🍀❤️
Take anything Ferrer says with a big grain of salt. Remember he said that Rafa would be playing Barcelona this year. For the upcoming D.C. Rafa will be a great cheerleader and inspiration but not an active player.
Totally agree.
It could also even be a very very very very long time in the future coaching “test” at the DC. He’s just so amazing as a player right here and now, there’s no doubt in my mind that if he were 100% fit. He’d get back to no. 1 in the world. Easy.
Getting back to the very very very very long time in the future coaching, Rafa’s so good that to not pass on his wonderfullness to an up and coming player would be a crime. He’s that good. Watch out Alcaraz and Rune. In the future, there will be a far superior wunderkind, coached by Rafa.
Very very very very very very very very very very long time from now:)
I’m going to agree with pretty much everyone who’s left a comment. Definitely not. Rafa has had loads of success in Davis cup. 5 times he’s been in the winning Spanish team. Amazing, right? After I googled that I was like, what?! Really?!
I think concentrating on the tour is far more important now.
No exhibitions either, I’d say.
Unnecessary and too soon! It would be taking one step forward and two steps back, so NO.
No..but only Rafa knows what’s best for him
I think he will be in playing form well before then, actually. I think he was being extremely conservative on his return timeframe.
No
No is correct.
