Rafael Nadal Nadal has withdrawn from The Slam exhibition against US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz set for March 5th at the MGM Grand Slam in Las Vegas.

Our champ said the following in a statement released by the event via email, hinting that he isn’t fully recovered from the hip injury he suffered at the Australian Open.

“I am very sad for not being able to come to Vegas and play in this amazing event with Carlos at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Unfortunately, the timing of my recovery doesn’t make it possible to be there ready to play. I am sure that we will find another date to celebrate this event and have fun.

I would like to thank the fans and event organizers who have been in contact with me all the time, showed a lot of support and have been extremely understanding.”

Americans Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe will square off in Vegas with the winner facing Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday.

  1. I suppose reinjured Carlito at Rio Open final yesterday (26Feb2023) will copy the Rafa’s statement and will send it to the organizers of LA event too. Dear Fritz & Tiafoe, have a much fun guys then.

    • I do agree. Rafa is right to take all the time he needs to fully recover in time for the upcoming Clay Court Season. He does enjoy playing Indian Wells but the Clay Court Events must be given priority if he is to stand any chance of winning RG in June. It does mean he will continue to drop valuable Ranking Points of course, which will make his draws all the tougher when he does return but his recovery must come first. I can hardly be bothered to watch men’s tennis at the moment!

  2. I am sadder that this probably means Rafa will miss IW too. That is one of his favorite events. It is more important that Rafa be fully healed, however.
