
Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch who held the title for over 70 years, passed away on Sept. 8, 2022.
In a statement on its official website, Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.” The Royal Family added, “The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and return to London tomorrow.”
Many tennis players have taken to social media to express condolences. Rafael Nadal posted on Twitter:
“My most respectful, sincere and deepest condolences to the Royal Family of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and to the British people for the pass of Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II.”
