Rafael Nadal—a 21-time Grand Slam champion, and 13-time winner at Roland Garros—became only the third man (after Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic) to record 300 match wins at the four Grand Slam championships (300-41) with a 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Frenchman wildcard Corentin Moutet in two hours and nine minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier.
Over a third of Rafa’s wins at majors have come in Paris, where he’s now 107-3. Our champ is 76-15 at the Australian Open, 53-12 at Wimbledon and 64-11 at the US Open.
“The last couple of months haven’t been easy so the victory helps me to improve a lot,” Rafa said after the match. “That gives me a chance to have another match the day after tomorrow. Let’s see what can happen.
Awaiting Rafa in the third round is No. 26 seed Botic Van de Zandschulp.
