The Indian Wells draw was performed today.

Three-time champion (2007, 2009, 2013) Rafael Nadal returns to Indian Wells as the No. 4 seed with a 54-10 record in the desert.

He is the second seed and will open his campaign against Sebastian Korda or a qualifer. It is well known that Rafa is Korda’s idol, and they practiced together in the main stadium on Tuesday.

Rafa could face Denis Shapovalov in the round of 16, Casper Ruud or Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals, and top-seed Daniil Medvedev in the semis, if the seeds hold.

Novak Djokovic has entered the Indian Wells draw, but it isn’t clear if he will play (as of now he cannot enter the United States as an unvaccinated foreigner).

Projected quarterfinals:

  • Daniil Medvedev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas
  • Rafael Nadal vs Casper Ruud
  • Matteo Berrettini vs Alexander Zverev
  • Andrey Rublev vs Novak Djokovic

Rafa’s potential route to the final:

  • 1st round: Bye
  • 2nd round: Sebastian Korda
  • 3rd round: Daniel Evans
  • 4th round: Denis Shapovalov
  • Quarter-final: Casper Ruud
  • Semi-final: Daniil Medvedev
  • Final: Novak Djokovic

Rafa made at least the semi-finals in eight consecutive appearances at Indian Wells from 2006-13. The lefty has tallied a 54-10 record at the Masters 1000 event, and the 35-year-old will try to claim a record-tying 37th crown at this level.

Good luck, Rafa! Vamos!

  1. Rafa wishing you the Very Best at IW. You stay healthy. We are just revelling in having you back where you belong. Buena Suerte my Champion. 💪🇪🇦☘☘

  2. I guess Djoker has the message now. Tennis is a very tiny part of USA sports so he has even less clout here than in Australia when it comes to flouting immigration law.

  3. Congratulations to the WTA

China’s leadership is VERY angry. But I am super happy that the WTA has completely severed its ties with China over the silencing of Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai.

As in Russia, and other autocratic countries, the Chinese are not allowed to criticize their government. Chinese leadership went on Twitter to voice its displeasure with the WTA’s decision to cut all ties with China. Chinese tennis fans probably have no idea why there won’t be any WTA tournaments —Twitter is blocked in China. The WTA is being accused of “putting on an exaggerated show” and “supporting the West’s attack on the Chinese system.”

In even better news, The WTA Tour will now be known as the Hologic WTA Tour. Hologic is now the global title sponsor of the WTA Tour.

  4. Indian Wells jhere you come up with confidence and a heart for tennis at its best!! VAMOS MAN!!!

  5. I hope Rafa and Larry Ellis had a memorable tête-à-tête. 😉

Who the ,;($!;!( does ND think he is that he could just waltz in to the US unvaccinated. I am kicking myself because I was actually feeling bad for the guy. No more!

  6. Its not the US that should have acted more quickly, its the selfish one, Djokovic. Did he really think there was a chance the CDC would change the rules just in time for him?

Maybe Rafa v. Rublev in the final? Go Rafa!

  7. Finally the inevitable is confirmed and the Djokovic Saga series 2 is over. Even though he knew the score, the US should have acted quicker to avoid the mess in the draw.
Now we can settle down to watch a tennis tournament which will still be great, despite its absentees.

Welcome back Borna Coric and the very best of luck to Rafa!

  8. Good luck Rafa you can do this. Just be safe and stay healthy and maybe take a break after this win to rest up for Roland Garros. I have watched you since you become a Pro and you have renewed my Love of Tennis . Stay Happy, Healthy and unbeatable.
