World No. 3 Rafael Nadal will kick off his US Open Series hard court season on Wednesday night at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C., as our champ takes on American Jack Sock.
This will be the 6th time that they square off. The head to head is 5-0 for Rafa, 2-0 on hard.

Date: August 4, 2021
Match time: Not before 7 PM EDT – Washington D.C., New York / midnight – United Kingdom / 1 AM CEST – Spain, France, Germany, Italy / 9 AM AEDT – Melbourne. To convert to your local time, use this website.
Rafa last played on a hard court at the Australian Open in February.
He will try to win his 15th career ATP 500 title in the U.S. capital. With 14 right now, he is one of only three players to have won 10 or more ATP 500 titles in their career, alongside Roger Federer (16) and Novak Djokovic (13).
GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!
The ultimate fighter! Rafa playing on one leg in the third when most players would have retired from the match. Rest your foot now Rafa, until Toronto/Cinci. Hope you’ll be ok for the USO.
Lorna- has Rafa withdrawn from Citi? I missed a few games at the start of the 3rd. What happened? I assume its his left foot?
Tennis TV didn’t show the on-court interview, just audio and then cut the stream when Mark Ein was about to present something to Rafa. Did anyone see all of it?
Hi Jas_uk, he presented a $50,000 check to Rafa’s foundation.
Thanks Mimi 🙂
And Rafa wins the TIEBREAK in the decider. WOWWEEEE
That makes me happy!
Margo, makes me happy too! Rafa managed to win…it was a though test. Hopefully he will be able to continue tomorrow. If not, he has my support.❤️
Tough not though, sorry about that.
He’s not OK. But like the announcer said, “Does not know the meaning of ‘give up’”.
Jas_uk, you are right to be nervous as Rafa is struggling so much on serve. Dangerous times in the third as he loses his opening serve, giving Sock more confidence.
OY VEY. I’m going to coward out & turn the channel for a bit! I’m still counting on Rafa to win this!
I’m a bit nervous of all the hype that has surrounded Rafa’s presence in DC to be honest. Defending champion Kyrgios out in the first round. Also, Fritz, De Minaur, Tiafoe, Evans and now Dimitrov. Please be careful, Rafa. Vamos!
Rafa looks pretty good to me…Rushed home from shopping to turn on the telly right in time to see Rafa nail a perfect tweener! So good to see Rafa back looking so healthy & fit!
Waiting to watch my champ vandalizing Jack like Hitler, can’t sleep im left with an hour and something like 30 minutes, itsi probably 20 to twelve midnight right now in South Africa, good luck my Champ, God will lift u up, vavamos Rafa
I live in the DC area, and even I am surprised how excited people are over Rafa’s appearance. The event sold out immediately even though quite a few tickets had already been sold. There are 16,000 names on the waiting list. As we saw here, fans were lining up even in the rain to watch Rafa practice. Rafa has made even more friends by his complimentary comments about the City. I so hope he wins tonight.
So good for DC to have Rafa there! Happy for you as well Va4farve that he won! That was a bit scary but Rafa prevailed & gave The DC fans a thrill!
Best of luck tonight Rafa…. Cannot wait….
VAMOS RAFA!!!!!!!!
Good luck and Vamos Rafa. So happy to see you back on the court❤️
It’s gonna be my midnight watch. I’m excited already!
Good luck Rafa. Will try to watch on a huge screen at someplace near home.
