Rafael Nadal: “I’m not celebrating my birthday, 35 is not good” [VIDEO]

Appearing virtually in the Eurosport Cube with Barbara Schett and Mats Wilander presenting him with a birthday cake, Rafael Nadal joked about reaching the 35 mark.

“No! No! Don’t celebrate! Don’t celebrate!” Rafa shouted jokingly.

“I’m not celebrating my birthday, 35 is not good. I want to be 25 again.”

“But at least I’m here, still playing tennis, something that would have been tough for me to imagine 10 years ago, and still in a privileged position.”

  1. Rafa has an excellent chance of passing Federer for his 21st Slam if he wins Roland Garros 21 . Doing it at age 35 is really no different than winning at 34 or 33 . I like the odds . We know if Rafa first serves at 70% or above and limits unforced errors , he will beat anybody on this service . I’m hoping I am right !

  2. WE HAVE LOVED EVERY MINUTE THAT WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE YOU PLAY !!!!!!! GOOD LUCK FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR

  3. Happy Birthday Rafa!
Stay healthy and happy and keep playing……you will be missed dearly for sure when you retired.
    All the best always.❤️

    • Mimi, Rafa recently said he will play as long as he’s healthy and playing well. He’s not thinking of retiring, yet. Will try to find where I saw it.

Also, I found the following article by Brit McCandless Farmer. Do you remember this?

Title: Rafael Nadal Still Really Likes Playing Tennis dated May 16, 2021

      • Thanks Margo.🙏

Yes, I think I read it, the title sounds familiar.

      • Maybe the media are recycling articles? That one is dated May 16, 2021.

Another article, “Rafael Nadal Can’t Predict My Future” is dated May 6, 2021? It is on ESPN but the article seems to imply it’s an AP article.

I just hope I’ve mentally prepared myself for the day Rafa actually announces his retirement. It’s not something I think about but it is “somewhere” in the back of my mind.

Although the subject of his retirement is nothing new, I hope the media will start paying more attention to his tennis.

      • Margo,

        I hope so too……for now let’s enjoy Rafa tennis.🤗
