During his quarterfinal match in Rome, Rafael Nadal suffered a fall on his left shoulder in the first set against German Alexander Zverev. Our champ was in visible pain but luckily he recovered to see out the match comfortably enough in two hours at Foro Italico.

Love him or loathe him, Daniil Medvedev is certainly entertaining and his hate affair with the clay continues. His on-court rant to the umpire during his thrashing by Karatsev is worthy of a tennis oscar for drama : ” It’s the worst surface in the world for me, but if you like to be in the dirt like a dog, I don’t judge”….” I don’t wanna be here. Gerry please default me it would be better for everybody”…”I’m doing my best, what can I do? Better I wait for Halle, it’s a much better surface….” I think my shots, my movement and my physical appearance [build] doesn’t suit clay…The big thing that motivates me is that I know I am capable of winning matches [on clay].
On one hand his outburst will be viewed as disrepectful to the tournament, but on the other he’s just frustrated at not having figured it out yet.
It’ll be interesting to see how his skills develop on the surface. Maybe he would benefit from a visit to the Rafa Nadal Academy for some lessons or seek advice from The Master himself – haha!

Speaking of painful, very hard to watch Ash Barty not be able to finish. Bad form to make the women play while allowing/forxing the men to . . . not play.
Sad to see that Barty and Halep (the two best women clay court players) injured. Wishing them a speedy recovery.
