PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal’s first practice session in Geneva | 2019 Laver Cup

Rafael Nadal has arrived in Geneva, with the days counting down ahead of the third Laver Cup.

The tournament will pit Team Europe and Team World against each other, captained by tennis legends Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe.

Here are some photos from Rafa’s first practice session with Dominic Thiem.

  1. This Laver Cup may be closer than people expect. Team Europe has a big rankings edge but a lot of them are “cold”. Rafa’s still tired from USO. I really don’t know how Roger is. Thiem, Tsitsipas and Zverev have been struggling all summer. Fognini has cooled off.

  2. Starting in 2020, there will be an ATP 250 grass court tournament, replacing Antalya, in Santa Ponsa, Mallorca, a week before Wimby.

  3. LOL I read a very funny tweet:
“Yikes, Rafa needs to get that restraining order ASAP” in response to the picture of Rafa seemingly being tickled by McEnroe.

McEnroe has on many occasion complimented Rafa on his physique, he admires the 19-Slam champion.

    RAFA ROCKS

  4. What could McEnroe be doing? Taking a closer look at Rafa’s muscles? He has commented many times
about his sleeveless shirts. Jealous perhaps? In any case, go Rafa!!! Just don’t over exert yourself. We need you to do well at the finals.

  5. There is a big media event scheduled for tomorrow so it is no surprise Rafa is already in Geneva.

I was hoping Rafa would not play and show up only to support Team Europe. It hasn’t been two weeks since his grueling US Open final and his body is still in the healing process.

After his team advises him about the pros and cons of playing, it is always Rafa who makes the decision to play or not. As a fan, I will always support him.

Rafa has a great opportunity to win this year’s Nitto ATP Finals and end the year as world No. 1. Staying healthy can only help him.

    RAFA ROCKS

  6. Hoping Rafa will partner in doubles with
Roger 🎶🎶🎶🎾🎾🎾 during the Laver Cup!
You look great as always and ready to compete. Enjoy and I look forward to watching on TV.

    • I just saw a short video of him practicing with Thiem and he didn’t look his usual energetic self. Perhaps he will use Laver Cup to give him an assessment of his fitness to compete at the Paris Masters.

  7. All your fans are so proud of your magnificent accomplishments and very happy you are in good physical shape after being through such a grueling final at the US Open. The Laver Cup is a fun event so it will be nice to see you being in a team environment having fun. There was no magic last year because Rafa was not there, but this year Rafa will bring back the fantastic element that made the 1st Laver Cup such a success.

    Vamos Rafa!

    🙂
