PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal beats Sam Querrey to reach Wimbledon semifinal, Roger Federer awaits
Rafael Nadal beat Sam Querrey in straight sets to set up a semi-final showdown against Roger Federer on Wednesday. He claimed a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 victory on Court One to reach his 32nd Grand Slam semifinal.
Querrey served 22 aces but won only 10 of 36 points where he missed his first serve, while Rafa’s final tally of 43 winners and 12 unforced errors told of a job well done.
Our champ and Federer will meet at Wimbledon for the first time since the 2008 final.
Rafa, speaking to BBC TV: “Quick or not quick, I am happy to be in semi-final after a match against a very good opponent. I am very happy with way I played it. It was dangerous on serve in the first set but then I played great, the serve started to work better and better and, yeah, very pleased.”
On fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut also making the last four: “Very happy for him, he is a player who deserves something like this. He is amazing, how strong and passionate he is about this game. Very special for Spanish tennis.”
And on facing Roger Federer in the semi-final: “It’s great, difficult to imagine to be again in that situation but here we are. I am excited about the victory for today, but excited to play Roger again at Wimbledon after such a long time.”

Another step forward.Great job. By Rafa’s reaction after his match today it was clear how much the victory over Querry meant to him. After all, Querry’s serving stats throughout the tournament have been astounding. Given all the disappointments Rafa’s had since he won in 2010, he’s eager to get his hands on the trophy for the third time which is well overdue.
Dare I say it? Yes. Things are looking good. Rafa has overcome the dangers of the lottery of a big server and now on to the task of handling Roger. Good luck on Friday champ. You can do it!
Congratulations Rafa Nadal you can do it against your friend and opponent Roger Federer as you did it the last time in Wimbledon Championship . Looking forward for victory I pray in the Mighty Name of Jesus Amen .
Very very happy for the win! Grats also to RBA – he’s a hard worker and a nice guy. I know it always makes Rafa happy to see a fellow Spaniard win. Hope he can give the Djoker some trouble! 🙂
VAMOS SWEETHEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) ALREADY WROTE TO CONGRATULATE YOU BUT HERE AGAIN……CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BRILLIANT GENIUS GRASS TENNIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) VERY HAPPY FOR YOU AND SENDING LOTS OF LOVE AND HAPPINESS AND VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Bravo Rafael 😀 In 3 sets Estupendo ! 😚 I saw some of the match and highlights in our local bar on BBC and could see the determination 😓on his face. Also saw his friend Bautista win over Pella 😀 expect Rafa was as pleased as us 😎 However, the bar screen before was showing the Fed Nishi match, I think it was on BBC 😯 they could not change to the Nadal match. If you watch live on the BBC like today in England do they stick to one match or swing from one to another ? On France TV2 during R Garros they often change from one match to another which is annoying if you wish to see more of a certain player. 😕 I suppose you need Eurosport or Bein Sport if you want to concentrate on one. Fiona in Paris
Yes, 2008 😃👑 the vidéoclips are great, 2010 😃👑 I have a framed photo of Nadal holding the trophy🏆 lovely and soft looking at age 24 😍 This year would .be a dream 😌 but I have a feeling this semi final is not going to be as easy as the R Garros 2019 Fedal semi final. 😯 Fiona in Paris
🙂 *that match* made a Rafan of me. I’d watched very little tennis for years and years and I couldn’t stand seeing that Federer guy winning everything. Watched the 2008 RG final hoping to see a little competition – pleased with the result but WTF?!?! Resolved not to miss Wimbledon that year – SOME of the matches were bound to be competitive, no? Yes! I could not believe this Nadal kid. Now it’s screw competition, just let Rafa steamroll! LOL at myself.
Wow
So thrilled to see the level at which he is playing.. Roger waiting for you Rafa on Friday. Be ready Roger because we are coming to take the revenge of aus final which is only one non grass final you won
Vamos Rafa
Thanks for giving the perfect lesson to the only serve player Querry which quarreled with the wrong guy😂😂😂
Best of luck Rafa in the semis

Well, you gave me a couple of heart attacks at 5-4 first set, and I had to leave the room, but so glad I ventured back for the next two sets.
Love you, champ – all your fans are willing you on, after all the injuries and bad luck you have suffered over the years.

Well said, Marcia. “Soaring” is the perfect word to describe how Rafa has been feeling/playing. I’m so happy and so proud of him! Keep soaring, Rafa!
