PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal beats Dominic Thiem to win 12th Roland Garros title
Unstoppable, unequalled, unforgettable.
Rafael Nadal’s incredible domination in Paris continued with his 12th French Open win on Sunday afternoon. The King of Clay defeated Austrian Dominic Thiem 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 to add yet another Grand Slam title to his resume.
It was Rafa’s ninth win in 13 matches against Thiem, who has been the only player to beat our champ on clay over the past few years.
With the victory, the Manacor native adds an 18th Grand Slam crown, which draws him to within two of Roger Federer’s all-time record of 20.
After the match, Rafa said:
I want to say congratulations to Dominic. I feel sorry as he deserves to win it as well. But he has every chance in the future. He has unbelievable talent for the sport and I want to encourage him for the future.
It’s a dream to win again, an incredible moment. When I first played here in 2005 I never thought I would be still playing here in 2019.
It’s very special for me.

Such disappointment when you left Indian Wells. Whoever helped you to recover your confidence
and focus deserves thanks. But the greatest accolade goes to Rafael. Regardless of advice, it is you who is out on court and it is you who must execute. Thiem is a great player, but you knew how to conquer him mentally and physically. Your visage told the story-you were never going to give up.
We salute you, and wish you continued good health and success.🎋🌹❤️
Some two weeks ago, I made suggestions on how Nadal can improve his game. Particularly, I pointed out the need to make his drop shots drop and bounce perpendicular or vertical as opposed to rolling forward. I also pointed out the need for Nadal to delay his volley when he receives a lob until the last minute when his opponent makes the decision to move in one direction then Nadal to hit the other direction.
Am glad to see that Nadal on the drop shot he implemented it as advised and for sure he beat Dominic each time he used this tactic.
On the volley though, Nadal didn’t hid my advise and we all saw how he failed on my occassions to finish off his opponent.
Bottomline however, it was the King of Clay’s who emerged invincible and congratulations Nadal.
I hope this inspires you to perform better at Wimbledon and hopefully wins it as well. Nadal is on a roll and am loving what Carlos Moya is doing for this guy.
Congratulations, Rafa! One dozen RG titles. How is that even possible? You are in a class by yourself. The first 2 sets were tight and Dominic was playing very well. He is indeed a great guy and player, so hard-working and professional. But the way Rafa dismantled Dominic in sets 3 and 4 was vintage Rafa on full display. Rafa never let up. “Just Unstoppable”! He truly deserves all the praise and accolades in the world for such an awesome accomplishment. He is a truly remarkable man and athlete. We will never see another Rafa in tennis history, ever! Love seeing that special Rafa smile for the 12th time.

The moment to continue with the momentum by going to Wimbledon. Last year Rafa lost in an epic semifinal to Djokovicz who had insisted on playing with a closed roof. The tournament obeyed his whims. Poetic justice, he was eliminated byThiem at RG semifinal thereby loosing his very hyped possibility to succeed in double career slams.
