PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal falls to Fabio Fognini at Monte Carlo

(AFP) – Rafael Nadal is out of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, beaten 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals by Fabio Fognini on Saturday.

Fognini, who also beat Rafa twice on clay in 2015, stopped a 25-set win streak in the principality for the world No 2.

The last man to take a set off Rafa in Monte Carlo was Britain’s Kyle Edmund in 2017.

Fognini ended Rafa’s Monte Carlo reign on his fifth match point.

  1. Rafa is playing fine. Fognini is a player that unsettles him. I thought this could happen today. He would have played much much better against Coric. Fognini was determined to repeat that Us Open match from years ago. This wouldn’t have happened against another player. Rafa is still the favorite for RG if he stays healthy. I wish Rafa all the best for this season. He is such an outstanding player and human being!!

  2. Who signs autographs after a defeat? Rafael Nadal has never had it easy, and, as he says, “This is tennis. Be prepared to suffer.” No one escapes unscathed. But, no other player has shown us such
grace in the face of pain.🙏❤️

  3. I really hope that rafa doesn’t get injured. The weather condition was creapy. The wind blowed very strong. Stay healty. The only objectiv most to be french open.
