Wimbledon R4: What time does Rafael Nadal play against Jiri Vesely?

Two-time Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal will take on Jiri Vesely on Monday in the fourth round after the Czech left-hander knocked out No 19 seed Fabio Fognini in a four-set upset.

Date: July 9, 2018

Match time: Rafa is third match on Center Court. Around 5 PM local time / 8 AM EDT –  New York, Montreal / 5 PM BST – United Kingdom / 6 PM  CET – Spain, France, Germany, Italy / 10 PM AEDT – Melbourne. To convert to your local time, use this website.

The pair have played once, which was in Hamburg of 2015, a match our champ won in straight sets.

According to ATP World Tour, Vesely (world No. 93) had not beaten a Top 20 opponent since the second week of the season at the ASB Classic, where he snuck by then-No. 13 Sam Querrey in a third-set tie-break.

Rafa is bidding to reach the round of 16 here for the 2nd straight year and 8th time overall. This is his 13th appearance at Wimbledon and his 53rd Grand Slam overall.

Rafa is also bidding to record his 35th Tour-level match-win of 2018. He is in 3rd place on the list for most Tour-level match-wins this year – behind Thiem (36) and Zverev (36).

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Great going for Rafa. And Vesely surely did not want to prolong his agony. If anyone had checked Vesely’s tournaments it shows that where he made it to a 4th round, that’s where it ended. I was banking on that.

    RAFA ROCKS WIMBLEDON

  2. Good luck to Rafa this Manic Monday when all of the ATP and WTA players will be playing their fourth round match.

I hope to see Rafa focused, eager for the challenge, and playing his winning game.

    RAFA ROCKS

  3. Rafa , Good Luck on the Grass on Monday. He’s a hard challenger but remember find his weakness and play hard to that. Celebrate every point and focus focus focus on breaking him down and breaking His serve . Don’t let him break your’s . serve like you use to hard, fast, and ace him allot. Best Wishes for a Healthy, Happy, Enjoyable WIN . you can do it . one point at a time and dominate him .

  4. Start of the tournament, people were saying Rafa had a good draw. I didn’t think so then, and you only have to look at RF’s draw to see what “easy” means.

Also, if RF is playing before Rafa on Monday (haven’t seen order of play yet), why so? He has already had 2 days rest, compared to Rafa, so I think Rafa shoud have played before him, to get more recovery time, assuming he beats Vesely.

It just makes me mad the way year after year RF gets easier draws, and preferential scheduling. He’s not going to match Rafa’s 11 RG titles at W, despite their giving him all the breaks.

  5. I hope nadal will get through but it wont not be easy in three sets. Jiri Vesely played one time before against nadal in hamburg 2015 that was a close match. Veseley hit 17 aces against fognini and also beat schwarzman. He is strong has a very good forehand, is lefthanded and has a unbelievable serve and we all know the problems from nadal against big servers.

The only difference between Vesely and Muller is that Jiri doesnt play serve and volley. Nadal will have to be sharp from the beginning and need to serve very well in order to win his service games easily. Furthermore his courtposition is going to be important if he stands 6 meters behind the baseline like he did against muller and returns predictable then Veseley will win his service games very easy.

Attacking and agressive tennis, good serve and return and staying closer to the baseline and rafa will prevail. I think it will be a close 4 sets victory.

Zverev and Krygios are out that is good news

    • Rafa has to keep Vesely off balance from the very beginning and not let up; he has to keep his wits about himself and not give away sets as he did against Müller. His court positioning has improved, thank goodness, and he is a lot more powerful than Vesely. This is a difficult match for me because Rafa could win in SS or Vesely could prolong his own agony to lose in 4 or 5 sets.

The team appears to be working on the things Rafa needs to do to win this tournament. Rafa will have to keep his nerves in check and keep a clear head. He can definitely win this. Rafa cannot give Jiri any clues if he if finds himself in tight spots.

      RAFA FOR THE WIN
