It was very obvious the story the press were angling for; linking an ancient dispute with Bernardes and yesterday’s time violations. Bravo! How we scrape the barrel! Rafa saw it coming but couldn’t fend it off, unfortunately. Today, the Times, an allegedly respectable English newspaper (and no doubt others) have run yet another derogatory story on him. Reporting:

‘Rafa may be fined £15,000 for receiving 2 time violations for which he alleged to know of only one… has an ongoing dispute with Bernardes originating from insisting on changing his shorts on court for which is received a time violation… is the worst time violator… is against the stop clock… keeps his opponents waiting (treated to an aerial picture of only his opponent at the net without him), denies the dry courts will help him…’, the author then states: they (the dry courts) will because the ball bounces higher (which is what Rafa actually said) and so forth. Thankfully, we have the interview to actually determine what is factually correct. As for the ancient history, it was Bernardes that insisted he change on court. Shame on the Times!

The fact that Rafa was actually quite quick yesterday escaped them and, the fact, that he is trying very hard to speed things up. Thankfully, he didn’t hear the first ill-timed and rather dubious time violation, no doubt this would have upset his equilibrium.

My heart bleeds for Rafa because he said during this interview he did ‘not want to be a participant in this story’ – which is exactly what it is – a rather nasty one.

We you all the best for the victory at the end of this tournament Rafa. The press has not been fair but it is not you they are ignorant and rude and we can see that!!! Be strong, say what you need to I understand every word you say so should the press!!! Have a wonderful weekend .xx

Grand Slams intend to revert to 16 seeds instead of 32 in 2019, which means the leading players could meet a top-20 player as early as the first round.
    [Source: BBC.com]

I wonder if the above change will have any noticeable impact. With 32 seeds, this Wimbledon has lost almost half of its top seeds in both the women’s and men’s games. Does anyone know Rafa’s stance on this?

The reporters did miss an opportunity in this presser.

They could have asked him how he is feeling now on the grass because a few days ago Rafa said he wouldn’t know until he is actually playing in the tournament how he is actually feeling the grass.

According to Rafa’s earlier statement the grass is not the same. They also could have asked him if the length of the grass is having any effect on how he is playing. Rafa said he found the grass “longer” this year.

    As Rafa says, “that’s it.”

Rafa could have stuck to his initial statement some days ago about the grass being longer.

“This year it was cut higher: 1.5mm high, from 8 to 9.5. Last year, the dry weather made some courts more dangerous, featuring some holes.”

I thought parts of the round were boring it was time for RAFA to put him down and now . I feel sorry that the stupid reporters keep asking Rafa the same stupid questions about the grass come on enough about the grass ….Good luck tomorrow .

For the record, I remember that as if it were yesterday. It was in Rio in 2015 and Rafa told Bernardes, to his face, “I will make sure you do not arbitrate me any more.” Rafa had put his shorts on backwards and received a time violation for leaving to put them on correctly.

Thereafter, in subsequent pressers, Rafa confirmed that he requested that Bernardes not umpire his matches.

I don’t think Rafa has the game to trouble fed in the final..novak has the best chance while kyrgios chokes in the final if he makes..doesn’t want Roger winning his 21 st GS. I don’t see any reason of him not making into the final…Rafa with his game at the highest quality is jus notch below fed on grass..it takes a miracle for Rafa to beat fed…jus doesn’t want fed winning. My realistic hope for Rafa dis wimbly is qf..I am not thinking more than dat..others can differ with my opinion..I think IAM not wrong in saying the above.

It’s still early in the tournament. Neither Rafa nor Roger have been tested yet. I will wait and see how Rafa does in his following matches to see if he has an excellent chance at winning another Wimby this year, with or without Roger. Next week should give us a clue. My money is on Rafa.
