Shapovalov won their only previous encounter in three sets last summer on the hard courts in Montreal. The 19-year-old Canadian is ranked a career-high No. 29, up 114 spots from 10 August when he defeated Rafa.

The Canadian teenager is 7-4 on clay this year, including a run to the semifinals at Madrid. His only ATP-level experience on clay prior to this season was a first-round qualifying loss at the French Open.
Rafa has won a record seven Rome titles, but none since 2013. The Internazionali BNL d’Italia is the only clay-court event where he has made four consecutive appearances without a title.

Wow how good was that? Loved that win. Rafa just steamrolling and far too good on every aspect . All the best tomorrow against a trickier opponent .
Kyle Edmund turned pro about six years ago and has yet to win a title. I don’t think he is a match for Sascha who has won 3 Masters and just turned twenty-one in April.
The next-gen has arrived. The most engaging of them all is, I find, Stefanos Tsitsipas who can poke fun at his loses and who thanks each tournament for the wonderful time he had, win or lose. I hope he goes far. He is a breath of fresh air.

Fantastic result for Rafa and how nice was Dennis at the net and clapping the fans. Keep it up Dennis and you will be a future no1 but not whislt Rafa is still playing hopefully. Lol.
