Tired Rafael Nadal needs rest before Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal says he will miss next week’s tournament at Queen’s Club as he needs to rest ahead of Wimbledon.

Our champ posted on his Facebook page:

I am very sorry to say that I am not going to be able play Queen’s next week. I am sad to make this decision because I love Queen’s, I won the tournament in 2008 and every time I reached the Wimbledon final it was after playing Queen’s.

I was hoping to take some days off and then be ready, but at 31, and after a long clay court season with all of the emotions of Roland Garros, and after speaking to my team and doctors, I have decided my body needs to rest if I am going to be ready to play Wimbledon.

Sorry to all the great fans in Britain and to the tournament organisers. I hope to see you at Queen’s next year.

Rest well, Rafa!

  1. Rafael Nadal-do whatever you want-you deserve it. The magic of La Decima
    will never fade.🙏🏻👏👑🏆❣️

  2. I’m getting over my disappointment by imagining Rafa out on his boat, trying out his birthday present fishing reel… warm sun, calm water, blue sky. Work-life balance is a very positive thing.

Hope you catch a big one Rafa! 🙂

  3. Wise choice Sweet Rafa 😊👍🏻 I’ll miss watching your great play though and I’m looking forward to your return at Wibledon 🎾💪🏼😃
Congratulations again on your amazing achievement this year and the best of luck on forward 🏆👑💖🍀
Now take good care and rest well 🤗

  4. Good thinking Rafa my boy. Have a good rest …. your body must need it after such a strenuous n successful period. Yes, you are quite a few years older than DT n Zev., but only a year older than AM n ND. Vamos, Vamos , Vamos Rafa in Wimbledon, but it really doesn’t matter … you’ve won em all n you’re a Legend already. Just keep on giving us a few more years of your MAGIC! God bless you. Your Aussie Abuela Nan Shirley. 🐂⏳👑😀😊😇

  5. A very wise decision, Rafa. After a magnificent RG, rest and build back your energy for Wimbledon. So pleased for Tommy Haas that he beat Federer because it’s his farewell year and he got his daughter to come along to the tournament especially for the occasion! Although I respect Federerer, he can’t always come into a tournament match rusty and expect to win it.

  6. Hass just beat Federer in Stuttgart. Wow!

Rafa, I’m still on cloud nine. 🙂 Smart decision to skip Queen’s. Relax and recharge, can’t wait to see you at Wimbledon.

    • YB, have just seen the end of the Federer match , yes wow indeed ( never mind Roger, liking the hair though) I won’t get to excited but things are looking good for Rafa at Wimbledon. A repeat of 2008 could be on the cards.

      • Maria, I’m actually conflicted. On one hand, I’d like to see Rafa succeed at Wimbledon again. On the other hand, if playing on the grass risks another injury (especially knees), I’d rather him skip it.

  7. Good decision, take rest and enjoy the time in Mallorca. Than Wimbledon can come. Vamos Rafa <3

  8. Excelente decision mi querido champion, descanza y recuperate para el Gran Slam mucho mas importante que los torneos anterior a dicho torneo. VAMOS RAFA

  9. Disappointed to not see you play next week but your decision is the right one. Good for you to take care of your mind and body first. Your health is most important for your continued career. Look forward to Wimbledon an your success there.

  10. I think many of your fans would agree with Margo that the happiness you provided us could last until end 2017.

However, please do not extend your recovery period. A tournament without you willl be quite boring and disappointing.

    Adelante Wimbledon or 2018.

  11. You have brought me enough happiness these first six months of 2017 to last until the end of 2017. I hope you learn how to rest and respect your body as much as it has respected you, carrying you to titles despite so many injuries.

Looking forward to seeing you at Wimbledon.
