Rafael Nadal and Leander Paes (playing with his 106th tour-level partner) suffered a straight sets defeat in the BNP Paribas Masters first round on Tuesday. Dominic Inglot and Robert Lindstedt defeated the Indo-Spanish pair 6-3, 6-4 in 62 minutes.
Rafa begins his singles campaign on Wednesday.

Very surprising loss. Paes is one of the best doubles players in history, and Rafa is right up there too even though he concentrates on singles. Did not see the match, so I can’t comment on it beyond that. These two should play more together since they seem to get along quite well. Paes, by the way, would be an excellent coach for Rafa – if Rafa ever decides to grow up and hire a REAL coach like all his top rivals have.
