Rafael Nadal and Fernando Verdasco beat Tomas Berdych and Jack Sock 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 to set up a second-round tie with No. 8 seeds Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
