PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal eases into Hamburg semifinals

Top seed Rafael Nadal scored a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win over Pablo Cuevas at the Hamburg Open on Friday to ease into the semi-finals where he will face the winner between Andreas Seppi and Simone Bolelli.

After the match, Rafa said“I played I think 90 per cent of the match doing the right things, doing the right shots every time and waiting for my moment. I think I created some problems for him when he was trying to hit a winner. I think I changed well the direction.”

With today’s win, Rafa improved to 24-6 match record on clay this season. VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Move In Rafa Or Move On

Rafa played better today than he did against Vesely and Verdasco earlier this week, but that’s not saying much. For the 3rd match in a row he had more unforced errors(10) than winners(8). There were at least a half dozen routine forehands that he missed which should have been hit for winners or near-winners. That just ain’t gonna cut it against the top players, or even against 2nd tier players such as Fabio Fognini when they’re playing well. The King of Clay better get his act together soon, before it’s too late. VAMOS!!!

Congratulations Rafa, So glad you are in the semifinal tomorrow. Once again, hope you have a great feeling on court; please keep your positive attitude. I hope you’re feeling strong and that you remain healthy. Get good rest as well. Just be relaxed as you need to be, play in the moment and believe in yourself. And you must keep your shots deep. I hope you have good luck going during the match because I think you deserve it– so Buena Suerte — and God bless you. Love Marylynn

  4. Yes it was a win, but,, Cuevas had too many opportunities to pull out the first set,, Rafa is letting a one set advantage go in just about every match,, against a top 10 player it won’t work. but I’m confidant that Rafa will continue to improve, he has to in order to get his ranking back.
