Rafael Nadal Makes Winning Start In Rio de Janeiro [PHOTOS]

Top-seeded Rafael Nadal advanced to the second round of the Rio Open by defeating Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 6-1. He extended his head-to-head record over the World No. 64 to 4-0 after the 91-minute win.

Rafael Nadal: “The important thing is play a tough match like this in the first round and win. And always beating someone in their home country, where he has a lot of support, is tough. I always have a good feeling playing on clay and I’m into the second round. That’s that matters. The first set was very even, and Thomaz is very dangerous on this surface. The second set I started right off with an advantage and I felt more relaxed.” (via AP)

  1. Congrats Rafa! Great win but sad for Thomas he’s such a good player and losing in his home country is not a nice sight ! I know how you feel to beat him in his own backyard but you are a top player and I hope you defend your title and win it. Good Luck and can’t wait to see you in your next match!

  2. well done Rafa..great start Champ..Thank God for ur health n recovery..Prayers always for u my dear..:-)..

  3. Vamos Rafa. That’s the way. You r the best. The perfect start. Your fans love n support is always there with you. 💝💝💝💝👍👍👍👍👍

  4. I thoroughly enjoyed this match. Even though it took Rafa a while to find his range, he was
totally engaged and focused from the start as usual. Whenever Thomaz broke back in the
1st set, Rafa would return the favor with a double dose of his famous killer instinct and
determination. I don’t think Rafa even had a double fault! Terrific start. Looking forward
    to Round 2.
