After a good first round match against Russian veteran Mikhail Youzhny, Rafael Nadal goes on to face 27-year-old American qualifier Tim Smyczek, ranked  112, in the second round in Melbourne. Our champion and Tim have never played each other before.

Rafa: “I don’t know him very well. All opponents are going to be difficult, and with the maximum respect for everybody and knowing that anything can happen in every round against anyone. So I’m just going to go on court with the same spirit as today, maximum respect, trying to be very focused, and try to play little bit the same way like I did today. “

Tim Smyczek: “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a really cool experience. You don’t have too high expectations going into it, other than it’s going to be an opportunity for me to play a guy I’ve looked up to for a very long time. He’s an amazing champion, and he’ll go down as one of the greatest tennis players ever, so it’s going to be really a treat for me, and I’m going to try to squeeze every bit of fun I can out of it.”

  2. Nadal must be Sharp from the start. This guy fits the profile of the many nobodies who beat Rafa in the last three seasons. Go full power, US open 13 style!
