World number one Rafael Nadal secured his place in the second week of Wimbledon with a four-set win over Mikhail Kukushkin, 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. Our champ will face the winner of the match between Nick Kyrgios and Jiri Vesely in the last 16.
“I am very happy to be in the second week after two years of losing in the first and second round. The body is fine. The court is a little more slippery in the first week. My physical performance looks good and that’s the most important thing for me. I’ve finished all my matches playing better than the start.”
“Kukushkin played very aggressive and I made a few mistakes with his second serve. I made some unforced errors. That took us to a tie-break and in that I didn’t serve my best,” said Rafa.

Great win today! I was up so early to look at your game I took Celebrex for my pains and was very shock to see this guy played such a great first set! He wasn’t an easy opponent at all, You came back and win a very good three sets, If you continue playing like this I can se you winning Wimbledon this year. Rafa so proud of you but u give me more stress than my beautiful boys who r grown up now , I stressed so much in 1st set but then Rafa the great returned & I so enjoyed this match . My youngest son Tom has 2 little girls & was very tied ( we live in Australia ) but he put his phone next to his pillow so if I needed him thru the match he would wake & talk to me , luckily u started to play brilliant & I didn’t have to wake him . Rafa u brilliant 😘😘❤️❤️👍👍
