Paris Masters: Rafael Nadal defeats Marcel Granollers to reach R3

Rafael Nadal defeated compatriot Marcel Granolliers in R2 of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris, 7-5, 7-5 . His next opponent is Jerzy Janowicz of Poland. After a hiatus of 4 years from the Paris Masters – he last played there in 2009 – Rafa is back and ready.

The first set saw Rafa and Marcel play evenly, with no break points until the 5-5, when Rafa finally broke to gain a 6-5 lead. He then saved a break point to take the game and the set at 7-5. The second set went the way of the first, with Marcel saving breakpoints to keep it even until late in the set, but Rafa eventually came through, taking the set and the match at 7-5.

It’s great to see Rafa back on court after a much-needed rest. Vamos, champion!
