On his last day as No. 1, Novak Djokovic will face our champion Rafael Nadal in the China Open final. Rafa has won their past three meetings to widen his lead in their FedEx ATP Head2Head rivalry to 22-15, though Nole still maintains the 11-7 edge on hard courts. Rafa holds marks of 13-3 on clay and 2-1 on grass. VAMOS RAFA!
Nadal will return to No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on Monday for the first time since the week of June 27, 2011. Nadal, who won the title here in 2005 and an Olympic gold medal in 2008, is trying to finish No. 1 for the first time since 2010 and the third time overall (also ’08). Nadal comes in with a 26-0 season record on hard courts and a 22-match winning streak since losing in the first round at Wimbledon (l. to Darcis) on June 24. The 27-year-old Spaniard is appearing in his 13th final in 14 tournaments this year and he leads the ATP World Tour with 10 titles and a 65-3 match record. He also is a career-best 18-1 vs. Top 10 opponents with his only loss to Djokovic at the ATP Masters 1000 Monte-Carlo final in April. If he wins the title, it will match his career-high of 11 in 2005. He is appearing in his 84th career final (60-23 record).
