Rafael Nadal defeated Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 to progress to round 2 at the US Open. His next opponent will be the winner of the match between Rogerio Dutra Silva and Vasek Pospisil.
Rafa broke in the first game of the first set to take on an early lead. He wowed the audiences with an amazing running smash passing shot winner that could easily be the shot of the tournament. He took the first set 6-4. Rafa broke early again in the second set to take the lead at 2-1 and took the second set 6-2. He broke twice to take an early lead in the third set, 3-0, taking the third set (and match) at 6-2.
Always the first round is not easy. The conditions out there today were difficult, so happy to be through. Win in straight sets, so is a good start for me.
For me the chance to be back here playing, I have a chance to compete this year, is great. I am enjoying the week before practising. Today [was] the first match after two years in Arthur Ashe, so it’s a great feeling.
