Rafael Nadal has reacted to the death of Portuguese football player Diogo Jota.

Liverpool star Jota, 28, died in a car accident in Spain on Thursday along with his younger brother, André Silva, a professional soccer player with Portuguese side FC Penafiel.

Local fire officials in Zamora, Spain, said they died when their car caught fire after it left the road.

Jota was a forward for the Portuguese national team and had played in the English Premier League for Liverpool since 2020, a club with which he had won the title, the FA Cup, and the League Cup.

Here’s what Rafaa posted to X, formerly Twitter, originally in Spanish:

What a sad and painful piece of news 😔

All my love, affection, and support to his wife, children, family, and friends in such a difficult moment.

Rest in peace, Diogo Jota and André Silva.
