Spain’s deadliest natural disaster in living memory has left at least 205 people dead with untold numbers still missing, and countless lives in tatters. The disaster was triggered by an intense storm system, known as Dana—short for “Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos,” meaning an “isolated depression at high levels.” Torrential rains battered eastern and southern regions, causing rivers to overflow and destroying bridges, roads, and buildings.

Rafael Nadal took to social media to express his solidarity with those affected by the devastating floods in Spain. He shared a heartfelt message offering condolences and encouragement to those grieving, writing, “Today has been a sad day with the suffering and pain caused by Dana in our country. Our hearts ache when we see the images. My love and encouragement to all those who have suffered the loss of family and friends. Strength and courage to all.” Alongside his message, he shared an image of a black ribbon, symbolizing mourning and the resilience of the Spanish people in these difficult times.

Also, the Rafa Nadal Academy, based in Manacor, was one of the many buildings affected by the unprecedented weather conditions. Both indoor and outdoor tennis courts were flooded in the wake of the huge storm, and the gym area also sustained damage from floodwaters. However, just a day later, the team worked hard to clean up, and photos showed kids back on the courts, practicing and returning to their routine.

This is not the first time Rafa has stepped up during a national crisis. In 2018, when devastating floods hit Mallorca, our champ donated €1 million to aid recovery efforts. Beyond the financial support, he personally joined cleanup efforts in his hometown of Manacor and opened his tennis academy as a temporary shelter for displaced residents.

Our hearts are with Spain, and we wish for healing and hope for everyone affected!
