Rafael Nadal prepares for his clay-court comeback in Monte Carlo

22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Masters 1000 events at Indian Wells and Miami because of injury.

Rafa is a three-time winner at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where main draw play begins on March 8. He is a five-time runner-up but has never won the Miami Open, which starts on March 22.

Took my time off, started rehab, gym and physiotherapy as instructed by the doctors. Getting ready to come back in the best conditions.

I am sad that I won’t be able to compete at Indian Wells nor Miami. Very sad not to be there. I’ll miss all my US fans but I hope to see them later this year during the summer swing.

Earlier today, Raf has been out on the practice court at his academy in Mallorca, as he was filmed rallying on the clay.

Rafa’s next tournament is likely to be the Monte Carlo Masters (April 9th), where he is an 11-time champion.

  1. If he gains form quick (Which is very likely on clay) he is bound to return to the top 10 shortly.
This will only be a blip.
He doesnt have many carried forward points from the last clay court season.
Cmon champ, you got this one, get the clay slam again. You can do it.

  2. I would love Rafa to do a Pete Sampras-like swansong, whenever that may be -no rush.

Few sporting greats have managed this: not Steffi Graf, not André Agassi.

To me, the numbers are not IT. Rather, IT is how the sportsman/woman achieved those numbers.

Think 2008 Wimbledon vs Roger Federer, 2009 Oz Open vs Roger Federer, 2019 US Open vs Daniil Medvedev and the cherry on top – again the 2022 Oz Open vs Daniil Medvedev.

I am sure the crowd’s collective hands in prayer clinched this last one.

My dearest Rafa won all four against all odds!

  3. I too am sad since I realize Rafa’s career is nearing the end. I just want to enjoy every match he plays. More important, I want him to be happy and healthy. I like several of the younger players, but there will never be another Rafa.

  4. Welcome back, Rafa. You have been missed-stay strong and healthy👏👍💪🤛🎾🍀❤️

  5. Not really surprised that he withdrew from Indian Wells – think we were discussing how it was likely he wouldn’t return until the clay court season, which makes sense. Happy to see he is on court again. Has anyone else see the footage of all the snow in Mallorca at the moment – the island has been hit by a huge snowstorm!!

  6. Heal well Rafa, your health comes first but we will all await your return, hopefully at the Monte Carlo Masters. You are missed so much, take care 💕

  7. Maintaining good health is more important than playing matches. Good luck and see you on court soon! Take good care 🙂

  8. Get well Rafa your health is first you don’t have to prove anything good luck we miss you on the court ❤️👍❤️💯

    • Hi Set…. Correct me if I am wrong…. I don’t think Rafa is out of the top ten….
My understanding is he has dropped to #8 …..

      • Glad to hear from Rafa directly. Five weeks from the injury; five weeks more to prepare for Monte Carlo.

Rafa mentioned seeing his USA fans this summer. That’s music to my ears!
