VIDEO: Rafael Nadal explains decision to skip Miami Masters

Rafael Nadal speaks to the press after his 7-5, 6-3 victory over Daniel Evans in Indian Wells.

“For my body, is not good to have quick transitions from different surfaces, no? Hard to clay. If I play Miami, I will not have time to rest and not time to make a swift transition to the clay. I need to make those transitions step by step. I cannot make drastic changes like I did in the past, so that’s why I decided to stop after here and to have, like, three weeks before the clay court season starts for me.”

  1. How i wish he had won Miami at least once…….
But he has a valid point. Even if he has skipped IW and played Miami, he would have very little time to transition. Would probably have to skip MC masters in that case or risk getting injured. Clay court season is limited. Only 3 masters 1000s and skipping your specialization makes no sense.
Miami organizers, speak to the ATP and switch yours and IWs time slot next year.

  2. Rafa is so right about Naomi…saying that life is not perfect & you have to be prepared for things like this. My heart hurts for Naomi but I really feel she is too fragile to be in this limelight. If one heckler can bring her to sobbing tears and affect her game then, she will have to decide which is best for her mental health. I wish her all the best & I hope that person is real proud for all the unnecessary grief he has caused her.

  3. We continue to wish you a fantastic year. We are insatiable, but you know best. Congratulations on a
convincing win against Evans-best of luck in the next round👍👏💪🤛🍀🎾❤️

  4. It’s a shame, because he’s never won it, and he’s so popular there because so many people in Miami have Spanish as their first language, but what he says makes sense. The clay court season is always going to be his priority.

  5. Good decision Rafa is making. He should rest up, come back fully refreshed for the clay season. We would love him at his best for FO22.
I can already see Rafa holding his 14th FO title.

    VAMOS RAFA. Your the best
