I was pretty upset listening to the commentators making comments before the match even started, especially that lady commentator who had her mind already made up that Rafa was going to lose the match. Well, HELLO! i thought Rafa came out swinging and on his game to tone down the comments of those commentators. How dare they. Congrats Rafa. That was Pam Shriver… she has the most annoying voice and she’s very negative. Paul Annicone was commentating with her and he is the opposite of her. Guess they couldn’t find a anyone esle to go to Mexico! Anyway her opinion means nothing!

Sorry to clutter up the conversation but I discovered my error in calculating Rafa’s point total if he wins tonight. I forgot to deduct the points Rafa earned at the 2021 AO for making the quarterfinals. Since the 2021 and 2022 tournaments were held in different weeks on the calendar Rafa got his 2022 points credited before the 2021 deduction became due.

SP and Margo- On SP’s hypothetical (because I don’t want to get ahead of the actual match) Rafa is exactly 1000 points behind Zverev. Unless Rafa is set to lose points I don’t know about, Rafa and Zverev would be tied if Rafa takes home the trophy.
On the other hand Rafa will take over at least the No. 4 position from The Greek. Go Rafa!

I can answer #1. Zverev will lose 500 points because he lost everything to do with this year’s Mexican Open, points and $.

Rafa played a solid match and his defence was spectacular. I’m so happy that he won, but I’m also glad that Daniil had a positive experience with the crowd and enjoyed the atmosphere despite losing.

Wow, what a blockbuster performance by Rafa. Those 2 games back to back in the 2nd set where Rafa faced so many breakpoints by Medvedev were so thrilling. Only Rafa could fight back with such determination, heart and grit. Those drop shots were amazing by both. Rafa’s arsenal of weapons were on full display last night. Magical, Rafa!
