In a rematch of one of the best men’s Grand Slam matches of recent years, Rafael Nadal faces Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open on Wednesday.
Date: January 29, 2020
Match time: 7:30 PM local time / 3:30 AM EST – New York, Montreal / 8:30 AM GMT – United Kingdom / 9:30 AM CET – Spain, France, Germany, Italy. To convert to your local time, use this website.
Rafa and Domi have played 13 times before, including twice in the final of the French Open in 2018-19. But 12 of those 13 matches have come on clay.
The last time they played one another on hard court, they produced one of the most memorable Grand Slam matches of recent memory. In the 2018 US Open quarter-finals, both men ripped the cover off the ball for four hours and 49 minutes, with Rafa ultimately triumphing in a fifth-set tie-break.
Rafa on playing Domi:
I expect a very tough match. He’s playing well. I saw him play Monday against Gael Monfils. He was playing a very high level [of] tennis. We know each other well. He’s a player who I like a lot, the way that he works, the way that he plays, and the way that he tries his best always. It’s a match that is going to be a tough one, but it will be interesting.
I am excited to play this quarter-final against Dominic. I know I have to be at my best to have chances. I think I am moving in the right direction. Every day I’m playing a little bit better.
GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!
There is HOPE!💪💪💪
Put the hammer down, Rafa. Don’t let it go to a tie break again.
Well, well, well. It’s not just Rafa that feels the pressure of serving it out. Tense!
Wouldn’t go without a fight. That’s my rafa
Yup
Because his Name is Rafa
Our very own dear Rafa
Love the spirit
Vamoossssss
It’s hurting like hell 😭😭😭😭
And I wish the commentators’d shut up about a turning point in history and the changing of the guard. It’s one tennis match, not the Battle of Waterloo! They said the same when Stef beat Roger last year, though. And when Sascha beat Nole at the 02.
I’d be very happy for either Dominic or Sascha to win it. I’m just so frustrated because Rafa should have won both of the first two sets.
Other than Rafa, Thiem deserves the title. Anyone except Djokovic or Federer PLEASE!
Yes, please!
I don’t know why, I am disappointed Rafa lost but I don’t feel as bad with this defeat, maybe because of Dominic?
He has got I mean
Theim looks like a potential contender for the trophy this year. Rafa is helpless. I m hurting for Rafa. He is giving all that he has fot
Looks like the writing is on the wall fir Rafa. He’s had his chances. Can’t bear it any more.
Theim is playing too good.
Oh no! Rafa likes to suffer too much. Just when i thought there was hope, Rafa continues to play into Thiems hands. What next?
Please God help us , help our rafa
Believe Guys
He is A monster
He is Back
Is he? Wow… from holding break points, to getting his serve broken straight away.
Aw shucks. This is why I love Rafa! You can guarantee that fighting spirit!
Baby steps champ… hold your serve going forward.
Win or lose, I’m proud of my champion Rafael Nadal!
YEAHHHHHH RAFA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vamos! Match back on!
One miracle happened with Federer yesterday can another one happen today with Rafa???
Now won’t that be amazing!!
Ok Australian open is over for me. But French open is just around the corner. And Rafa didn’t have to retire in the tournament which is a positive.
PLEASE RAFA, TRY TO GRAB THIS SET BEFORE IT GOES TO A TIE BREAK LOTTERY.
