Roger Federer sends best wishes to newly-married Rafael Nadal

Roger Federer briefly paused his preparation for Basel to send best wishes to newly-married friend Rafael Nadal.

Explaining that he was not part of the festivities, the father of four said:

I was not invited by Rafa, but I had not expected to be.

I congratulated him and hope he had the best day of his life.

I knew he wouldn’t reply to me immediately, because at his wedding he had other important things to do, like enjoying the party.

I am very happy for Rafa.

  1. Rafa beat Nole in Kazakhstan 6-3,3-6,11-9. Seemingly not showing much match rust in spite of a long lay off. The fans really got their money’s worth.
The Paris Masters draw is tomorrow. Best luck to Rafa to keep the momentum going.

  2. Rafa and Djoker are in Kazakhstan according to Some news.. Today the match is scheduled but time is not there. Very Few news agencies are Covering this match which is Surprising

  3. Re-post: posted yesterday but I don’t know where it went.

Spain’s team for Davis Cup [Madrid, Nov. 18-24] has been announced: Rafa, Roberto Bautista-Agut, Pablo Carreño Busta, Feliciano Lopez, Marcel Grañollers.

  4. Juan Monaco – invited. Marc Lopez – invited. They are Rafa’s friends. But, so is David Nalbandian. Why he didn’t get the invite????

  5. My guess is that the ATP asked Tennis TV to delete the tweet. At first I too thought it was an ATP tweet; Tennis TV is written in much smaller letters to the right of a much larger ATP.

Djokovic is still world No. 1 and it shows a lack of respect from Tennis TV. Had they done that to Rafa I would have gone ballistic.

BUT, the caricature is great art work and yes it’s hilarious. Had Tennis TV waited until November 4, it would still have been very funny and great art, minus the controversy.

  6. VAMOS SWEETHEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) GO RAFA GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) ENJOY YOUR PRACTICE AND WORK OUTS AND HAVE A GREAT TIME BETWEEN TOURNAMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) WE LOVE YOU AND VERY HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

  7. I just read an article by Uche Amako about a tweet from Tennis TV showing a roller coaster featuring Rafa, Djoker, Federer and Medvedev. ❤️ It!😉

    • I’ve just seen a picture of the tweet, and apparently they’ve had to take it down because Djokovic fans claimed that he was being persecuted by the ATP because it showed a cartoon version of him sat between cartoon versions of Rafa and Roger, and they were smiling but he wasn’t! What a fuss about nothing. It was a light-hearted cartoon meant as a bit of fun!

      • Yes, it seems like everyone is happy and excited except Djoker. No one says he is not world no 1, he still is but I just thought it is funny. Maybe Margo is right, they should have waited until Nov 4.

Tennis TV probably did the right thing by deleting the tweet though.

  8. I agree with others that there are many reasons why Roger was not invited. Roger also is playing in Basel today at his hometown tournament. Roger and Rafa have a wonderful professional relationship but are not lifelong friends. The press was just ridiculous in making this a focus of almost every article.

  9. I am surprized roger never got an invite as they r partners and look very close as freinds rafa chose
    We r all conected anyway

Have a great life. Rafa and maria u have a lovely heart

    • Don’t be surprised, Antoinette.

If Rafa had sent an invite to Roger then he would also have to send to Novak and then Andy as well. Sending to Roger only would most likely have been misconstrued by the other too. Better to leave all of them out, isn’t it?

Besides, I’m sure all of Roger, Novak and Andy never invited any member of the big 4 to their weddings.
It is not retaliatory by Rafa. Just best to keep it that way.

      Cheers

    • As Federer himself said they are not best friends. He himself has better friends and Rafa has better friends. It is silly of social media to keep asking about Federer’s invitation, thus forcing him to react about not being invited. At the end of the day polite of him to congratulate Rafa.

Best wishes to Rafa and his wife, for a marriage so obviously made in heaven.

      • Exactly My Thoughts
You always get the reflection of a friend or not a friend when you compete against him and after losing just see their celebration then you can instantly judge if they are friends or not

      • I think Rafa has huge respect for everyone on tour and he gets opposite from everyone.. My answer is complicated. Hope it clears a bit
Media is the biggest enemy of big three as well

      • I think Rafa did not invite any other active players other than his countrymen……Roger is not his close friend but they respect each other.

      • I think Rafa and Roger are becoming close friends in recent years. But there is politics involved in inviting players on the tour other than players from your own country. If Rafa did invite Roger, then the media will be asking Djokovic, Murray, etc. why they didn’t get invited. That’s just my view. Wish Rafa and Mary a life of happiness! Such a beautiful couple!

    • I think we’ve all been there with people we know from work, and weddings or birthday parties or other social events! If you ask one person, you then end up feeling obliged to ask umpteen others, plus their partners! Just because you get on doesn’t mean that you’re best friends. Nice words from Roger.

  10. I was studying the official wedding photos. Rafa and Maria Francisca looked oblivious of everyone, even the person taking the shot, so natural, and you could say candid.

It reminded me of a wedding photo, another place, another time – of John Kennedy Jr kissing the hand of his bride Caroline. Unbeknownst to the newlyweds, the photographer pointed his camera, and the photo was even askew as he momentarily lost his balance taking the shot.

I have seen so many wedding photos in my time and I must say the love for each other is palpable, is captured by the lens there to be enjoyed and warm the heart for posterity.

I am so happy for Rafa and Maria Francisca, as their cup runneth over, so does mine and others all around the world will certainly do as well.

God is Love and we are His creatures.
