Tsitisipas: “Rafa makes you play bad” – hot shot, highlights | Australian Open 2019 [VIDEO]

This forehand around-the-net was Rafael Nadal at his very, very best.

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ surge of momentum came to a grinding halt at the hands of Rafa in the Australian Open 2019 semifinal.

    • It’s okay. Pouille refused to show up today. I think he simply ran out of gas, and his ordinariness made Djoker seem extraordinary.

On Sunday, Djoker will find out that 2019 Rafa is a new beast.

      • Mac, if words could kill, your use of ordinariness vs extraordinary is just so lethal. I hope Pouille never sees that.

For sure I’m pissed he didn’t do any damage to Nole but I feel the same way you do about Rafa being a new beast. He will be handed his second AO title on Sunday. This AO marks Rafa’s campaign to reach #20 in 2019.

  1. Really sad!!!

Against Rafa needs to be very very aggressive against Novak. Novak has a killer instinct and Rafa needs to be tough and give it to him. Mental strength, determination and self confidence and belief is what Rafa needs.

    Go, go go!!!!

    VAMOS VAMOS VAMOS

    YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

    • True! Tsitsipas must be feeling quite good. However I feel sorry for the crowd. You don’t expect to see this type of match in a grand slam semi final

  2. Following is Deadspin.com’s take on Rafa’s amazing shot making. For me, it reads like a thriller with a happy ending, depending on whose side you are on.

Rafael Nadal gored YouTuber Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 today. Their Australian Open semifinal match took just 1:46, but in that span the winner erected a monument to one of tennis’s historic shots: the Rafa banana forehand.

Above [“above” refers to a clip you can watch as I was unable to transfer it here] is as pristine a specimen as has ever appeared in nature.

Here are the general conditions for the banana. The opponent has hit a ball into the ad-court, so fast that any shirt-sleeved right-handed coward would have just allowed the winner on sight. It’s coming cross-court at an angle that will yank Rafa all the way off the baseline. The Spaniard is sprinting (or, surface permitting, skidding) out past the doubles alley to intercept it. You don’t even have a chance to wonder if he’ll get there. Because abruptly the feet are no longer the spectacle—it’s the lashing left arm, coming up and around the ball to give it occult shape. Somehow the ball is headed back with so much side spin that it bends in the air—hence the banana—around the sideline, maybe even around the net post; and with so much top spin that it dips right down to kiss the opposing corner. Only the fastest players could [do] chase down the ball, and only this damn spin ninja [djinn] could massage it into the perfect landing spot. He makes your winner his winner. It’s his signature, both sickening and majestic. [Source: Deadspin.com by Giri Nathan]

I hope Rafa gores Nole or Pouille too

That is where Nadal’s only hope lies, failing which Novak will again win the AO for a record 6th time

    • I second that! Let’s all put positive energy out into the universe to help Rafa play his best in the final. ‘Can’t wait til Sunday. Vamos Rafa!

    • He can, SetInThePast. Keep Djokovic guessing, confuse him and Djokovic will have a breakdown.

As good as Djokovic is he is also nervous going into the final. As good as Rafa is he needs to be less nervous.
