ATP List: Rafael Nadal back to No. 1 in the world

Rafael Nadal is back at No. 1 in the ATP rankings, once again swapping spots with Roger Federer.

Rafa now leads Federer by just 50 points (8,770 to 8,720 points) in this week’s standings and will hold onto the top spot until at least 16 July. Our champ is only defending 180 points at Wimbledon, while Federer is defending 2000 after winning the title last year.

The current ATP rankings and point scores are as follows:

# Name Nationality Points Tournaments
1. Nadal Rafael Spain 8770 14
2. Federer Roger Switzerland 8720 18
3. Zverev Alexander Germany 5755 22
4. Del Potro Juan-Martin Argentina 5080 19
5. Cilic Marin Croatia 5060 18
6. Dimitrov Grigor Bulgaria 4780 22
7. Thiem Dominic Austria 3835 26
8. Anderson Kevin South Africa 3635 22
9. Goffin David Belgium 3110 25
10. Isner John USA 3070 24

Rafa is still #1 in the year-to-date rankings.

Even though Rafa is world No. 1 player in the world, he will likely to be the second seed at the Wimbledon due to seeding formula.

Unlike the other three Slams, Wimbledon is not bound to follow the ATP rankings when it comes to seeding its own tournament by virtue of its status as a private club.

  1. PRINCESS R MUST FEEL ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS IN THIS TWISTED PRIVATE CLUB MANIPULATION OF TOUR RANKING……. RAFA IS NUMBER ONE WORLD PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) IF PRINCESS DOESN’T FEEL EMBARRASSED BY THE PROTECTIVE ARTIFICIAL LAYER AROUND HIM, THEN HE DAMN WELL SHOULD BECAUSE ALL OTHER TOP TENNIS PLAYERS EARN THEIR SIT AND WORLD RANKING FAIR AND SQUARE…… THAT IS MY TWO CENT OPINION AND MOVING FORWARD, I TRUST THAT A LOT OF THE BEHIND THIS SO CALLED PRIVATE CLUB TOUR POLITICS WILL EVENTUALLY BE REVEALED IN TIME.
MEANWHILE ALL THAT IS LESS IMPORTANT AT THE END OF THE DAY. WE LOOK FORWARD TO ENJOYING THE REAL, GENUINE TOP TENNIS HEROES FIGHT FOR THE NEXT GS…….KUDOS TO ALL , ESPECIALLY TO YOU SWEETHEART , OUR PRECIOUS GOAT OF ALL GOATS RAFA NADAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) YOU ARE THE MAN WITH PASSION AND DETERMINATION LIKE NO OTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) MOST FAVORITE ADORED FOR YOUR CLASSY SPORTSMANSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) THE CLASSY, BEAUTIFUL BRILLIANT TENNIS CHAMP THAT YOU ARE AND HAVE BEEN SINCE YOU FIRST STEPPED ON THE TENNIS COURT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

  2. The Rafa/Roger pendulum swings back to Rafa again. Hurray! We all know that Wimbledon bases it’s seeding on past Wimbledon performance as well as rankings. I don’t think that Rafa is too bothered about being seeded no.2. The most important thing is that he is match fit and ready to face which ever opponent he is drawn against.

  3. HAPPY FOR MY CHAMP. HE RIGHTFULLY DESERVES TO BE WORLD NO. ONE. RAFA , YOUR HUMBLENESS AND DOWN TO EARTH ATTITUDE , SHOWS WHAT A GREAT SPORTMAN YOU ARE.

CANT WAIT FOR WIMBLEDON TO START.

LOVE YOU RAFA, DEAR ALWAYS. 💙💖💟💜💛💚💓💞❤🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷

  4. Great news. Good luck on grass court. One match at a time. Never look ahead. Still my king and favourite player of all time. 🎾🎾🎾💜💚💙

    • You are very welcome! I am fine either way, but the grass season is very short, so rewarding those players who succeed on it does not bother me. I certainly hope Rafa will go further at Wimbledon this year, but with his knees it will not be easy.

  5. and an insult by Wimbledon not to acknowledge Rafa as the World No. 1. They put him 2nd to Fed before when he was No. 1. Much as I like (and have been many times to) Wimbledon, they are VERY biased towards ‘certain’ players.

    • It is not an insult to Rafa at all. If you are honest, Rafa has sucked on grass for 7 years now. It’s an insult by the other slams not to adjust seedlings based on past results like Wimbledon does. Remember in 2013 when Rafa was seeded 5th because he missed 7 months? Why would anyone seed Rafa 5th at the French???? That’s moronic. Rafa is the greatest clay courter of ALL TIME. He should have still been seeded #1 that year but the French chooses to follow the ATP Rankings. Roger Federer is absolutely the best Grass courter of all time and and has had the best results on grass the past 2 years out of everyone on tour so is appropriately seeded #1 for Wimbledon.

    • Wimbledon uses a formula which gives more weight to a player’s success on grass. In fact, I believe Ćilić will be seeded third at Wimbledon before Sascha Zverev and Del Potro. I am not sure this article is correct in saying that the other slams have to use the ATP rankings. The GS are not ATP events. It is my understanding that they choose to do so, but are not required to do so. I remember discussion before the FOs on moving Rafa from two to one, but they never did so.

    • It probably doesn’t really matter to Rafa anyway. He only needs to defend 180 points as to Federer with 2000 points. After watching Federer in Stuttgart and Halle. He has some serious competition.
Congrats to Rafa as No 1 again.

GOOD LUCK AT WIMBLEDON RAFA. You will do your best. Take it one match at a time.

VAMOS RAFA No 1 to me.

      • For the rest of the year, Roger is defending something like 4500 points and Rafa something like 3500. Rafa is over a thousand points ahead and has a thousand less to denfend. I smell his first ever defense of year end #1 baby! Hopefully he can win the WTF and have all the important titles to his name. All slams, Davis Cup, Olympic Gold and WTF.

  6. Excellent and just look how many tournaments Rafa has played compared to all the other guys. Proves how fantastic he is. Always No1 for me.

  7. Brilliant news that my King of Tennis is in his rightful posistion..🎾🎾🇮🇪🇮🇪💋💋
