VIDEO: Rafael Nadal shares his expectations for clay court season

Rafael Nadal is set to play in the Monte Carlo Masters starting on April 15, and will look to defend his title from last year.

After two Davis Cup’s victories in Valencia, our champ came back to Mallorca where he has been practising with his team.

Tomorrow, Rafa will travel to Monte-Carlo and in some way start this season since he only managed to play one tournament this year. He hasn’t played an official ATP tournament since retiring against Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. His main goal is to play his best tennis while staying healthy.

Vamos Rafa!

I don’t think of the points I have to defend. My mind is on getting ready for the five upcoming clay tournaments which are so important for me. I want to stay healthy, give my best and play as best as possible.

I had a good training week, first of all, I recovered a few days after having some tense days in Davis Cup. I am eager to start playing, since I have only played one tournament this year, in Australia but I retired. So it feels like I am starting not just the clay season, but the 2018 season.

      • You’re very welcome YB.

I think it is interesting to note, despite the absence of Roger last year, “The event [tournament] was fully sold out from Monday to Sunday on all five competition courts. A very first for us!”, according to Franulovic, tournament director.
