Rafael Nadal has been nominated for the ‘Laureus World Sportsman Of The Year’ award in recognition of his achievements over the last 12 months.
Won two Grand Slam tournaments in a season for the first time since 2013, including a record 10th French Open, in which he only lost 35 games in seven matches. Also won his third US Open. He is now second on the all-time list of Grand Slam winners with 16, overtaking Pete Sampras. He finished the year as world No.1.
Rafa is nominated alongside Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, cyclist Tour de France winner Chris Froome, Roger Federer, Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton and world champion long distance runner Mo Farah.
In the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year category Garbiñe Muguruza and three-time 800m world champion Caster Semenya join an all-American quartet of Serena Williams, 16-time world athletics championship medallist Allyson Felix, 19-year-old swimming sensation Katie Ledecky, Overall World Cup champion skier Mikaela Shiffrin.
The winners, as voted for by members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, will be revealed in Monaco on February 27.
