Rafael Nadal and Pablo Carreno Busta win China Open doubles title

Rafael Nadal and Pablo Carreno Busta came back from a one-set down on Sunday to capture the China Open title, which represents their first team trophy.

They defeated Jack Sock and Bernard Tomic 6-7(6), 6-2, 10-8 in 89 minutes.

After the match, Rafa said:

We enjoy playing together. We played some good matches here, I think, winning against some good players. Winning with a good friend, too, is something that is a bit more special. So we’re happy for that.

The Spanish duo started their tournament by defeating No.3-seeded Bopanna/Nestor before defeating the Chinese pairing of Gong/Ze to reach the semis where they knocked off the Bryan Brothers, 7-5, 6-4.

It was 11th ATP doubles title for Rafa and his second of the season since he won the gold medal at the Rio Olympics with Marc Lopez in August.

  1. JBeer I would think at your age you would know that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit and that if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all .

  2. A confidence booster. Congratulations-keep up the fight👏💪👊🌟👑❤️How
    we all love a win!

  3. Surely Rafa can win many more majors in singles, now that he is such a great doubles player. Djokovic is lucky that the Bryan bros never decided to take singles more seriously, cause he would be in trouble.

  4. I was so disappointed when you lost to Grigor. You looked pale n there was no oomph in your game, which made me think that there was possibly some stomach problem after you took a toilet break early in the first Set. You despise making excuses when you lose, so this could possibly have been the case? The Win with Pablo is fantastic n I know you can come back n win the Cup in Shanghai. Just keep practising serving ACES. You are our Champion Rafa. Love n God Bless from your Aussie Abuela. 🏆👑😊😇😀

  5. Susana it was Mark Lopez who played with Rafa at Rio.

Pablo and RAFA CONGRATULATIONS on you wonderful win.

I didn’t see the game here in Australia, but great to wake to this news this morning.

I think Rafa enjoys playing with his compatriots that he enjoys himself so much and relaxes, without the stress of singles.

    Love and prayers for Shanghai,

  8. Didn’t see the match but what great pics , lovely to see Rafa looking so happy , whoever he teams up with in the doubles they seem to win . Great that he has such great rapport with all the Spanish players. Well done to both of you🏆

  9. I don’t watch a lot of double matches, but I hear all the tennis commentators say how good of a double player Rafa is. A lot of tennis player go on to doubles after their singles careers are over. Look at the smile on both their faces! Happy ending for Rafa!

  10. Congratulations Rafa.Iwas very happy to hear that. You will start next tournament. Cheer up,after take rest..

  11. Aww how sweet! Well done Rafa. There’s hope for your future yet as a doubles specialist when you retire from singles! In a few years though.

Meanwhile, Andy Murray is somehow saying to Dimitrov, “Don’t expect me to pull a Nadal:)”

  12. 👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  13. Grande! Smiles back on faces. Two things come to mind:
Pablo will have to get used to BIG Rafa hugs:)
How long before Pablo becomes ‘Busta’?

  14. Well done Rafa! What a beautiful sight to see you and Pablo 👥 smiling, lifting a trophy I agree with Ashish. Mix it up more as your game is becoming increasingly predictable. It’s not just about the forehand any more. You have an excellent feel on the ball so take more chances. 👍👍👍😍😍😍

  15. Congrats rafa and pablo

But in my view rafa should not play too many doubles tournament

this tournament rafa was playing superbly in singles and wish he continue with same here after
grigor defended well, rafa just needes to mix a his forehands with some drop shot and slices

    vamoa rafa

  16. Great win, great fight back when 4/1 down. A win is always good for confidence and Rafael can go to Shanghai in a positive mood. It will help erase the unfortunate match v Grigor. Onwards Rafael.

    • Elizabeth, That is my hope too. He should now go to Shanghai in positive spirits. We all know that Rafa is an emotional player. Once he gets down on himself, it is hard to fight back. Because he was injured so much of this year, he may be fresher. The photos are heartwarming. No one has a better smile then Rafa.

    • I couldn’t find the match on TV so I watched the scoreboard on my iPad when I saw Rafa and Pablo down 4-1 in the 3rd I went to sleep. What a nice surprise to awaken to see them lifting the trophy with big smiles! For me this made up for the Dimitrov match and it should make Rafa feel a lot better as well! Now Rafa regroup, focus and Vamos for Shanghai!

  17. Well done babe. I knew you could do it. I hope this title will give you the confidence you need to hold on and to have faith in yourself. Keep your head up beautifull.
