PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal beats Leonardo Mayer at Roland Garros

Defending champion Rafael Nadal is yet to drop a set going into the second week at Roland Garros, reaching the fourth round in Paris on Saturday with a 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Leonardo Mayer. Our champion will next face Dusan Lajovic of Serbia.

Rafa’s record at Roland Garros since 2005 is now 62 wins for one loss, that coming against Robin Soderling of Sweden in a 2009 fourth round match. “It was a positive first week – under control and winning in straight sets is better and I’m happy for that… I felt a little bit my back, that’s why I slowed down a little bit the serve,” Rafa said.

  1. Hope Rafa stays healthy and able to pull through to the final! I’ll love to see him win and celebrate a unforgettable birthday at RG and has the biggest cake ever.

  2. Oh no 🙁 Recurrence of injury? I’m so sad, why this is happening now?:( Hold on, Rafito! 🙁

  3. Rumors have been swirling re the back with the slower serve not going unnoticed – today the tape. PLEASE tennis gods (and physio!!) heal our guy, please let’s not have a replay of the last major . . .

  4. Congratulations, Rafa. Fun match to watch. Glad Rafa fought back hard in the 2nd set especially when Leo was starting to assert his mojo. But it wasn’t enough to take the 2nd set.

All these players deserve credit for their efforts whether they win or lose. Playing tennis
at this level is so competitive and demanding. Good luck, Rafa on your next match!

    Vamos, Rafa!!!
