June 15, 2008: Rafael Nadal wins his first career grass court title defeating Novak Djokovic 7-6 (5), 7-5 in the final of the Artois Championships at Queens’ Club in London. Nadal becomes the first Spaniard to capture a grass-court title since Andres Gimeno wins the title in Eastbourne, England in 1972.
Nadal also becomes the first player to win the French Open on clay and turn around a week later and win the title at Queen’s Club since Ilie Nastase of Romania captures both titles in 1973. Says Nadal, “This week was amazing for me.”
