- Nadal: ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’ | ATP Tour
“I need to keep improving…[But] it’s normal that I need some more time in terms of everything,” said Nadal. “In terms of movement, in terms of being more fitter, in terms of reading again the game. In general terms, [it was] not a negative week in Madrid, even if the tournament is probably the most difficult for me, [with] the altitude.
“[I am] excited to be in Rome. It’s a place that I love so much. [I have] amazing memories. I’ll try my best, as I do always. I hope to be ready to play a little bit better than last week. Let’s see.”
Today—Monday, May 9th, 2022—Rafael Nadal adds another milestone to his legendary resume, kicking off his 800th career week in the Top 5 of the ATP rankings. He’s the second player in ATP rankings history to reach that milestone.
This is his 868th consecutive week inside the Top 10 since he first broke into the elite on April 25th, 2005, and he’s spent 92.2% of that time inside the Top 5.
Rafa Defends Crown: Nadal hit the ground running on his return after six weeks out with a rib injury at the Mutua Madrid Open, but the legendary Spaniard’s run was halted by countryman Alcaraz in a thrilling quarter-final clash. Nadal will look to up his level further at a tournament where he has the most titles (10) and most match wins (68), a record that still makes him the man to beat in the Italian capital.
