New Rankings: The race begins for Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic

New rankings are out for the first time in 2014 after the events in Doha, Brisbane and Chennai. With a win at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha, Rafael Nadal further built his lead at No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, adding 250 points to reach a total of 13130 before going to the Australian Open.*

Vamos Rafa!
Vamos Rafa!

Novak Djokovic opted not to play last week, keeping his points tally the same. Rafa now has 870 more points than Djokovic. Since Rafa has no points to defend in Melbourne, and Djokovic cannot gain points as he is the defending champion, Rafa can secure a good point lead before clay season if he goes deep at the grand slam. Good luck Rafa!

*Rafa’s 150 Vina del Mar points drop off from his countable scores, because of his better score at Qatar. Therefore, his net gain is only 100 points (250 -150).
