German tennis player Alexander Zverev has surpassed Rafael Nadal in the latest ATP Rankings, so he is now ranked third in the world, and Rafa has dropped to position No. 4.
Novak Djokovic remained at No. 1 despite not having played at Indian Wells or Miami because he has not been vaccinated against COVID-19 and couldn’t travel to the United States.
Daniil Medvedev briefly held the top spot this year and could have returned there depending on his performance in Miami, but his quarterfinal loss meant he stayed at No. 2. He announced Saturday he would be sidelined for a month or two after having hernia surgery.
Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest winner of the Miami Open after beating Ruud in straight sets in the final on Sunday. The 18-year-old Spaniard has moved up five places into 11th.

According to the Express Rafa’s PR has given conflicting reports about Barcelona. One report is that he will miss Barcelona and come back for Madrid. The other report is that Rafa and his team have not yet made a decision about Barcelona.
@David Holtzman – Nadal has decided to pull out from Barcelona. This could be a blessing in disguise for him considering the bigger picture of RG2022. On a different note, Djokovic lost in his opening match against Davidovich Fokina at Monte Carlo. The year 2022 appears to be a deja vu of 2017 for Djokovic so far after an exceptional last year.

Najam, I agree. Missing Barcelona won’t affect Rafa’s ranking. It’ll give his body a bit more time to fully heal and reduce the chance of him getting exhausted before RG.
Well done Davidovich Fokina for putting up a great fight to beat Djokovic, who said he’d run out of gas in the third. Even so, Djokovic never really looked comfortable throughout the whole match.
So sad that Rafa is missing the clay court season. There’s nothing like watching him blasting through his opponents on clay. Like Johnny Mac said…Rafa on clay is like a thoroughbred at the Kentucky Derby! Maybe he’ll play Madrid and Rome?
