Rafael Nadal receives treatment for foot injury

Rafael Nadal said on Saturday that he was recovering at home after receiving treatment in Barcelona for the foot problem that forced him to cut short his 2021 campaign. He posted on Instagram:

“Hello everyone, I have not communicated with you through the networks for some time. Tell you that I was in Barcelona with my team and the medical team, to receive a treatment on my foot that will give me a few days of rest and a few weeks off the court. Back home and in the process of recovery. Thank you all for your support!”

  1. There are pictures of Rafa at the Monaco Yacht Club with the Jet Club group. If you press the hashtag JetClub up pops the jet. I wonder if he took a jet trip. WOWWEEE

      • Instagram
Not sure how I accessed it but it’s there…

Been super busy so apologies for the late response Mimi

      • Mimi, #jetclubgroup on Instagram

Don’t know if the pics of Rafa are still up…I imagine they would be.

I only go to Instagram for Rafa so I am not sure how Instagram works.

      • Also, if you #rafaelnadal some great pics of Rafa and the embrace of the century….Rafa and Roger….
That Roger is squeezing my Rafa just a tad too hard….hmpff! LOL

  2. Rafa was busy in Monaco yesterday playing ping pong on Great White with Nico Rosberg, 2016 Formula 1 World champion. You can the video with audio on Instagram @nicorosberg and on Twitter.

    Guess who won???

  3. I’ve been watching bits of the Laver Cup and really miss the presence of Rafa and Roger. Sadly, it’s one sided and predictable as Team Europe have the stronger side, by virtue of the individual seedings. John Mcenroe must be truly gutted as his team look like losing yet again. Perhaps a handicap system should be introduced to level things out.
Someone on Instagram suggested that maybe Roger and Andy Roddick should be the respective captains. Not a bad idea!

    • How about granting a maximum of three serves per point only to Team World next year if the huge ranking disparity remains between Team Europe and Team World?

This way, the weaker players of Team World can actually gain some advantage with two attempted first serves followed by a third serve per point before losing the point to a “Triple Fault” if all three serves are faults.

  4. Hi Pauline,

Thank you re your post at 3:35 PM.🙏❤️ No, no Aussie Open tickets yet…good luck to Rafa!🥰

50/50 for both teams, I will be cheering for Diego, FAA, Andrey, and Casper, and I will figure out what to do if they play each other.😁

    Hi David,

Re your post at 5:58 PM, I am actually lack of energy because I was hoping to watch Fedal play doubles together.😬

    • Mimi, You won’t get to see your dream doubles team but maybe the 2nd best one: Diego/Opelka. Teehee. Wouldn’t that be a hoot?

I’m so envious this morning seeing Rafa & Maria Francisca greeting visitors to their catamaran in Monaco. Happy that they travelled there together.🥰

      • Hi Pauline,

Happy to say I met a few Rafa fans yesterday and had fun talking about our champ during breakfast and dinner. Yesterday’s lunch was not included, so I was on my own…had a tender and delicious 🦞 roll, I am a huge seafood lover.😋

Looking forward to tennis today. I have second and third row seats, maybe I can congratulate Daniil Medvedev for winning his first GS, and he can hear me.😂

I had to check it out as soon as I read your post, Maria & Rafa🤩😍

  5. Rafa posted a tweet regarding the volcano eruption in La Palma, Canary Islands. Hopefully there were no casualties. I haven’t had a chance to check and no one from there has posted, as far as I know. Wishing all well.

  6. Pauline, re yours of 9/22 @ 5:38pm, no link.

I’m cracking up because you know doggone well that unless Rafa is literally tied down like with the injury when he was TOLD to stay off his feet, he will be busy either with personal business/pleasures or fulfilling commitments. He always outlasts the Energizer bunny [but don’t tell the bunny]. LOL

    • Isn’t that the truth! I would give anything to have a fraction of his energy. As Carlos Moya told Jon Wertheim on 60 Minutes Mallorcans are very laid back people but Rafa is the different one.

Tio Toni told the press today that Rafa will play Australia and be ready for a big 2022. 🤞❤️

      • Pauline, thanks for the news about Rafa and 2022 and I get it but I’m wondering why Carlos wasn’t the one to make that announcement. I just hope Toni isn’t trying to exert any pressure on Rafa to play before he is totally ready.

Carlos, as you know, is pretty laid back and not into being in the spotlight. I hope that’s all it is.

      • Hi Mimi,

I was thinking of you and wondering if you have booked your tickets for Australia yet? How exciting that Rafa will be there(if all goes as expected).🙏🏻

Have a great time in Boston. I’m sure you are missing Fedal. Are you cheering for Team Europe?

      • Margo, Toni seems to enjoy sharing his thoughts with reporters. Perhaps he is being premature in his optimism. I have decided to take a wait and see attitude re:Australia. Hoping for Rafa’s return but he hasn’t even resumed practicing yet. Who knows how the foot will react? The statement I saw from Carlos when Rafa called off his season was that four months off might not be enough. Only time will tell so keeping my fingers tightly crossed.

  7. Hi Rafans,

Two friends and I would like to go to Mallorca to see Rafa train at the Academy, before he leaves for Australia 2022 (assuming he does). Can any of you share advice on:

the latest date Rafa trains at the Academy before leaving for Aus (taking into account likely quarantine)
what the protocol is for seeing him train – whether it’s public or you need to ask permission or buy a ticket to the museum etc.

    Thank you kindly.
    Alex

    • You’ll have to watch this site for information on Rafa’s schedule. You can watch @Genny_SS twitter account for info on Rafa and the RN Academy. Normallly Rafa leaves for Australia a few days before the new year but he usually plays the Abu Dhabi exhibition. No one, including Rafa, knows when he’ll be playing again, but Genny_SS will tell us when training resumes. Normally Rafa does open training and you don’t need a ticket for that, but sometimes he does a closed training and you won’t be able to see that. If you want to see the museum, there’s a small charge. Otherwise it’s free. Good luck!

    • Alex, I’d like to add that a fan, Fiona, is usually up-to-date on what Rafa is doing at any given time. Fiona does post here so keep an eye open on RNF. Hopefully she can give you some good tips or a feel for what occurs when Rafa is in fan-greeting mode.

      Have a blast.

  8. I have to scroll quickly past the picture of Rafa at the top of this article, it upsets me, so it’s been a relief to see photos of him back on (both of) his feet and out and about today. You can see he’s favouring the other leg, but small steps in the right direction are good news.

    • Yes it is encouraging that he is off the crutches and was even able to putt on the golf course today.

Does anyone know why he has his whole family and Benito P.B. and Carlos Costa with him in Madrid?

      • Pauline, it may be when he went to look at real estate in an exclusive area in Madrid to use after he retires from tennis.

“Rafa Nadal viaja a Madrid para visitation sus lujosas inversiones inmobiliarias”

He may have already purchased an entire floor in a building with only 7 tenants. It’s a very important building from what I gather.

I’m in a rush so can’t translate it right now.

      • Margo,

Yes thanks so much. I did see the photos of all of them outside the Villa de Paris which he invested in back in 2017 and had restored. It’s a gorgeous building.

So nice that he’s had a lot of activities to hold his interest during his rehab. Most importantly that he has a close knit family and friends to share it all with.

The Monaco Yachting Show is on for the next few days. Some lucky attendees will be able to go on board Great White for a tour. Wondering if Rafa will be there as well.

In other hopeful news Rafa will resume his tennis training in 7-10 days according to Diario de Mallorca. He turned down an invitation to compete at the Mallorca Open Golf tourney in October to concentrate exclusively on his preparation to return to the game.

That is music to my ears. Looking forward to seeing that!

      • Exciting news Pauline about Rafa getting ready to start training and yes, music to my ears too. WOWWEEEE LOL

  9. Djokovic certainly won over the New York crowd today and most of all with his speech. Medvedev said that for him Djokovic is the GOAT. Didn’t realise that he felt that way Anyway …..

    • Well done to Emma and Daniil who captured their maiden grand slams in impressive fashion. Ironically, Djokovic losing the final has probably endeared him more to tennis crowds because he’s shown some humility and fallability. Crying into his towel at the sit-down, during the final stage of the match, certainly showed that he’s human and a certain amount of vulnerability gathers sympathy. When Naomi Osaka first expressed her feelings and anxieties, Djokovic quoted Billie Jean’s words, saying “ ….pressure is a privilege”. It definitely wasn’t the case for him in the final and now he feels, first hand, the struggles that Serena Williams has experienced in her pursuit of that elusive slam.

We have an interesting situation in which Rafa is recovering from injury, Djokovic is deflated from his loss and the chasing pack are improving and growing in confidence. Both the old and the new guard have it all to play for. Body permitting, no doubt Rafa will relish the challenges of next season. Heal and comeback strong champ!

    • That will be good if he comes back with a vengeance… he is a champion he is a Legend but I have a hard time finding that he is The GOAT. I can’t get the images out of my mind with Novak smashing rackets having uncontrolled meltdowns & a nasty temper which makes one wonder how he treats his family.. There should be a lot more elements to being the greatest of all time then just racking up the most GS. Rod Laver,Rodger Federer,Rafael Nadal those names flash like a neon light GOAT! Also what about Margaret court and Serena Williams are they going to separate the men from the women if not then those two have the most grand slams! For me there is no question who the GOAT is & y’all know who that is!

  10. Just soo very happy ans relieved. Just didn’t want to have a look ……. then my daughter told me and also over the moon.

Rafa just get back hail ans hearty!!!

    All the best.

    Love you!!

  11. L2+Left Play Station celebration for Medvedev.

BTW, even though the GOAT debate is a very complex debate with lot of variables, perspectives, angles, prejudice and biases, let’s be fair with Djokovic who now has established some edge on both Federer and Nadal in some aspects.

  12. I just had to post the following paragraph from Mathew Furrerman’s article in the NYTimes, September 12, 2021:

“Instead, whatever spirits pull the strings of this uniquely exasperating sport intervened in the form of a lanky 25-year-old Russian, a neighbor of Djokovic’s in their adopted home of Monaco who is sure now to create any number of awkward encounters at Monte Carlo’s cafes and grocery stores and at the local tennis club where both of them train.”

Check the equipment before you use it at the tennis club, Daniil. We don’t want any “unforeseen” accidents like loose barbells or you diving into an empty pool. 😬

  13. same thing happened in AO 2014 final with nadal against wawrinka, but rafa got back problem and was struggling but the dent that remained quite sometime after that match on rafa was huge….let’s see what happens with novak, no matter how good form u r in, leading is hard

  14. Wow wow! Though I knew Medvedev had the ability, didn’t think Djoko would pass up on this opportunity of a lifetime. This was undoubtedly the best I’ve seen Medvedev play, mentally too, staying focused from start to finish.

Eagerly waiting for Rafa’s comeback in 2022. I just want to see him win Australian Open and Wimbledon one more time. The GOAT race continuessss …..

  15. Congratulations To all Rafa fans For Rafa To be in contention next year…I am super happy to write this comment as I know this danill win will boost up chances of Rafa To Go ahead

    • ND didn’t pass on making history Medvedev simply outplayed him.Noavk played his heart out & it just wasn’t good enough. Its unbelievable Daniil played the most spectacular tennis I have ever seen. Now Rafa can come back & win a few more RG & who knows what else! All & all it was a very entertaining USO a bit sad without Rafa but a very good outcome!

      • Awww come on Zig…. You think Novak played his heart out? I don’t …
I just think Novak had the worst day of tennis he’s experienced in a long time… Nothing went his way. Medvedev played extremely well… His serve was fantastic while Novak’s game went long, went wide…went in the net…
He didn’t have his game in this years OPEN finals…

The trophy went to the better player (that day) and I am very happy for Daniil… He’s very deserving of his 1st GS title… and I thank him for keeping the GS titles at 20!!!

Looking forward, with all my hopes and prayers, Rafa will lift number #21 at Roland Garros next year….

  16. Was Djokovic crying at some point? That was a beautiful sight! Maybe he thought it would make Daniil feel sorry for him or something, and allow him back into the match like so many others have done after his antics…

    Not a chance this time!

Well done to Medvedev who played fearlessly. Totally deserved.

    • Yes ..it was on the last sit down when the fans were trying to pump him up. He was crying laughing & shaking… he was a hot mess.Think it was 4- 5 & he knew he wasn’t going to win. I almost felt bad for him !

      • Ziggy, ND said he was crying because he “NEVER felt love from a NY crowd.”

This was the very first time he felt loved in NY. I can only guess he was overwhelmed by the fan support.

And I thought he didn’t have a heart.

  17. Congratulations Daniil…. Today is a day you’ll always remember and so will I….

Rafa…. the door is still open to go ahead next year ….
Take it slow… heal…stay positive… and know we love you and miss you…

  18. Congratulations Daniil! Straight sets! Better luck next time Nole.

Actually I didn’t watch so as not to jinx it because I did think Daniil could do it. I will watch a replay.

Someone on this site wrote that Rafa’s plan would have him missing AO. Is this the incentive his foot needs to heal sooner?

  19. Davai!!! A straight set win by Daniil was my least anticipated result. I was hoping for one more upset in a tournament that gave so many and it happened. Congrats Daniil!

  20. Yes’ Marileena I did call it 🙏🏽 The quirky, fearless casino player has beaten the boring metronome. That’s what it takes to beat Djokovic.
Quite frankly, I don’t care what Djokovic goes on to win in his career, I just didn’t want him to get this one!
WELL DONE DANIIL!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 You played to win. Richly deserved!!!

    • 👏🤗 Hiii Mimi…
While trying out my new rotisserie I just realized today is the final…grabbed my phone off its charger and COULDN’D BELIEVE it. Have been staying away but hoping Rafa is healing well.

      MEDVEDEV did it. WOWWEEEE
Of course I had to come here to read fans’ take on this MONUMENTAL upset…..Daniel finally got his SLAM.
As usual, die-hard Rafa fan Mimi is subdued…c’mon Mimi, let it out…LOL It’s fun when you get excited. I sure am. My dinner is going to be extra good today.

      • Hi Lorna, that means a lot…thank you. I’ve been bummed out about Rafa’s situation. Wish I could be as optimistic as he…but I’m getting there.
I see you called the winner? GOOD FOR YOU [and Rafa fans].

      • Hi Margo,

I told my husband we will go out to dinner…I will not cook tonight heehee.😝
        Enjoy your dinner!

      • I was wondering about you Margo …figured you would sit this one out being Rafa wasn’t there. Lorna called it but honestly I figured that Novak was on a mission and somehow he would win. Happy Dance…Rafa Roger & Novak still even in GS!

      • The moment djokovic said ‘ I will the final as it the last match of my career ‘ I knew he is gonno fail big time. He put too much pressure on himself. Against a free flowing and brilliant hard court player like Medvedev , you cannot go with such mindset. A straight set demolition it was . Starts with a bang, ends on a whimper.

  21. Almost a deja vu reminiscent of AO 2019 final – but this time it’s Djokovic who was at the receiving end. Congrats Medvedev. Not only that you have captured your first grand slam title, but you now also have a great chance to become No. 1 in the coming days and finish the year holding on to it.

So, it’s still 20-20-20 for the Big Three. I sincerely hope that Rafa would recover in time for AO 2022. Let the GOAT debate continue.
