Last October, Rafa came back from a break down in the first set to stop Jannik 7-6, 6-4, 6-1 in a Roland Garros quarterfinal that ended after midnight in Paris. Since then, the pair have practiced several times with Jannik serving as Rafa’s practice partner in Perth prior to the Australian Open. Their last meeting was in Rome and our champ won 7-5, 6-4.

Rafa on playing Jannik:

“Gonna be a tough one. He’s young. He’s improving every week. He has big shots. Gonna be a tough one.

I need to be solid. I need to be aggressive too, because if not it’s very difficult. I need to make him play from tough positions, and I can’t make a lot of mistakes, no? Let’s see. I know it’s the fourth round, you can’t expect an easy opponent out there.

Jannik is not the best fourth round, without a doubt, no, he’s a dangerous one. He’s young. He’s a great player. We know each other well. So let’s see.”

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  1. No more let downs for me today. Rafa said he “knows Sinner’s shots” so he’s got to be prepared for any “unknown shots.” He can handle it.

I’m more concerned about Medvedev who plays against Tsitsipas tomorrow.

  2. Incredible effort from Musetti . He’s such a talented player and very interesting to watch. Pity this young man couldn’t stay the course, physically, but he will grow in stamina.

  3. Diego Schwartzman is into the QF.

Seems as if Musetti is gonna let me down.

Medvedev thinks he’s got the key to defeat Rafa. Maybe tomorrow Tsitsipas will shut him up.

  4. Musetti just won the first 2 sets against Djokovic both in tiebreaks. When I saw Musetti win against Checcinato I wondered if Lorenzo could be the one to get rid of ND who hadn’t dropped a set before this match. Hoping Musetti can win a third.

    • Margo,

I normally don’t watch ND match unless he plays Rafa. I turned on TV at the end of the first set and has not moved since, still watching and a momentum shift at the moment……yes, one more set please, win in 4.🍀💪

      • Neither do I Mimi but after seeing Musetti play for the first time my eyes opened up wide after seeing how much ground he covers. He’s going to need more than that to beat ND. It’s nothing for ND to win from 2 sets down.

    • In an ATPtour.com interview Carlos Moya identified Musetti as one of the best newcomers in the field. I’m pulling for Musetti of course but it will be tough if Nole gets rolling.

      • That’s exactly what ND is doing.😬 Hoping for Musetti to win the last set.🤞

    • Oh dear! Novak won the next two sets and Lorenzo looks tired and has left the court with the trainer. Such a shame.

  5. I sincerly hope that rafa will win he has to have a great start and serve very well above 70 percent and dont attack to much sinner backhand and use forehand down the line more often

    • It is going to be a tough match for Rafa. Sinner has nothing to lose so can play without pressure. Rafa can do it. He is playing with confidence now and serving well. He also beat him in Rome only two weeks ago, though that too was a tough match. I will be too nervous to watch it live but will watch the replay if Rafa wins. Best wishes to Rafa.
